Captain Hostia is an Imperial member of the Blackguards and leader of the Blackguard Caravan in central Murkmire.

Missing in Murkmire[edit]

After speaking with Xukas and Jaxsik-Orrn, Captain Hostia can be questioned.

"These Argonians are crazy! Please, you can't let them kill me. I surrendered! I had nothing to do with the abduction of that lizard's people! I swear it!"
Start talking. What did the Blackguards want with these captives?
"How in Oblivion should I know? Orders came down to watch the captives. I didn't ask why. Maybe I should have, but I've got a daughter at home. If I don't follow orders, she doesn't eat.
I had nothing to do with the abductions! I'm telling the truth!"
You're going to have to be more persuasive. Is there anything else you can tell me?
"Mara's mercy, you'd let that Naga murder a prisoner? Just let me think!
All right, there was an interrogator who grilled a few of the captives. Something about a Remnant? Yes, the Remnant of Argon. He was asking everyone about it—even the Nagas."
The Remnant of Argon?
"Yeah—some Argonian relic maybe? I really have no idea what the Remnant is! Word is there's someone with a heavy purse willing to pay out a fortune for any information, but that's all I know!
Please, don't make my daughter an orphan!"
I have to think about this.

If you speak to her again before making a decision:

"I promise you, I'm done with this life, and with the Blackguards. Just let me go, and I'll never trouble any of you again. You have my word!
Please, think of my little girl. I can't leave her alone in a world this cruel. She needs me!"

If you allow Jaxsik-Orrn to kill her, the following happens:

<Jaxsik-Orrn approaches Captain Hostia.>
Captain Hostia: "Wait, please don't. No—no!"
<Jaxsik-Orrn kills her.>

If you decide to let her go, Xukas frees the Imperial:

Jaxsik-Orrn: "Brave, ojel … but foolish."
Captain Hostia: "Thank you! I'm finished with the Blackguards! You have my word!"
<Captain Hostia runs off>

If she was let go during the previous quest, she is later encountered again as Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker during The Skin Taker.

Following her release, she will become a sadistic serial killer, terrorizing Argonians across Murkmire. She is hiding out in the Singing Grotto, her camp and personal torture chamber. If you instead allowed Jaxsik-Orrn to execute her, her daughter Julitta will become the Skin Taker instead.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

As you enter the cave and progress through it, she'll try to get you to abandon your quest with a series of pleas and taunts:

Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "Did the mud-lizards send you to find me? You're meddling in things that don't concern you!"
Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "I have no quarrel with you. Don't make yourself my enemy. Turn around."
Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "I tried to offer you the same mercy you gave me! You should have taken it."

Once you begin battle, she'll say:

Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "I'm going to hang your hide over Lilmoth!"

Once she reaches half health, she'll say:

Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "Why do you care for those savages? They're barely more than beasts!"

As she perishes, she says her last word:

Hostia Asellus the Skin Taker: "Julitta …."
