"A good soup is like a lake. The surface may be rife with activity, but the true greatness lies underneath. The surface is just the introduction." —Makes-Many-Soups[1]

Makes-Many-Soups was a highly respected cook of the Second Era. She was credited with numerous recipes that were celebrated throughout Nirn as late as the Fourth Era.[2]

History[edit]

Makes-Many-Soups in Windhelm
"My meal with Makes-Many-Soups was surprisingly pleasant. We decided to partake of the fare at the Sober Nord, and the food was delicious. Makes was impressed--and when it comes to food, she's very hard to please." — Veesk-Olan[3]

Little is known of Makes-Many-Soups' past, but by her own account she was interested in culinary pursuits as a child. When she was little, she used to pretend to be a cook and make soup in mud puddles with the wings of flies. Since then, she has grown considerably as a cook.[1]

In 2E 582, during the Interregnum she was a cook in Windhelm and Jorunn's Stand. She attended the Konunleikar celebrations that year, and also served meals to members of the Ebonheart Pact at the army camp of Journn's Stand.[1] At that time, during her stay at the camp, she crossed paths with Veesk-Olan, another Argonian who would later become a renowned author. She admitted to him that she harbored a secret love for steamy tales of romance and adventure, with a particular fondness for The Lusty Argonian Maid. Their brief romantic involvement inspired Veesk-Olan to create a heroine named Makes-Much-Love, based on her, in his novel The Green Hood and the Dres Slavers.[3]

Chef Donolon's Jubilee Cakes served as inspiration for several of her dishes, including the popular Jubilee Soup. The celebrations surrounding the Jubilee also prompted her to develop six new recipes.[1]

Legacy[edit]

"Makes-Many-Soups has many recipes credited to their person: Jubilee soups, soups made with mead, and soups that are celebrated all over Nirn." — Urzhag gro-Larak[2]

Second Era[edit]

She served as the inspiration for and was immortalized as the heroic character Makes-Much-Love in Veesk-Olan's popular adventure novel The Green Hood and the Dres Slavers,[3]

Fourth Era[edit]

The legacy of Makes-Many-Soups lasts much longer than the Interregnum of the Second Era. She is also celebrated among other renowned chefs in Tastes and Tales from Tamriel by Urzhag-gro Larak, apprentice to the famous Gourmet, Balagog gro-Nolob. In his book, Urzhag refers to her as a well-respected chef of the Second Era, whose numerous recipes continue to be celebrated across Nirn. One such recipe, the Argonian Pumpkin Stew, is credited as one of her original creations.[2]

Recipes[edit]

"My soups are works of art. They aren't meant for the hungry or the curious. Such masterpieces are destined for true connoisseurs." — Makes-Many-Soups[1]

Argonian Pumpkin Stew[edit]

Although Makes-Many-Soups claimed not to make stews and was adamant about distinguishing between stews and soups,[1] one of her most famous recipes was, in fact, a stew. It was described as rich and flavorful dish.[2] The Argonian Pumpkin Stew featured ingredients such as pumpkin, fish, and saltrice.[4] It was among the favorites of Urzhag gro-Larak and recoreded in his book.[2]

Jubilee Soup[edit]

Little is known about Jubilee Soup, except that it was inspired by Donolon's Jubilee Cake,[1] and remained recognized as late as the Fourth Era.[2]

Soup With Mead[edit]

Among the many dishes created by Makes-Many-Soups was a soup made with mead. She once met a Nord who requested such a dish, and though she was initially dismissive, she perfected the recipe, which turned out to be delicious.[1] Mentions of this recipe have also survived into the Fourth Era.[2]
