|
Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Talk to a Merchant or an Innkeeper, acting as an agent for another party.
- Head to the specified dungeon.
- Find the Daedra Seducer within.
- Attack her and listen to her offer.
- Either accept or reject her offer.
- Travel back to town and meet the agent's master.
- Give the agent's master either the lodestone or the pearl.
- Kill the agent's master, who is an Orc Shaman in disguise, within the time limit.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
A Powerful Offer[edit]
Speak to a merchant or innkeeper, who says:
- "My name is (agent's name). I represent a someone that needs to ... acquire something. Whoever delivers it will be rewarded with (Chrysamere). I don't know what that is, but I am told it is an item of power. Are you willing?"
Accept[edit]
The merchant or innkeeper goes on:
- "You must get the daedric (lodestone) from (dungeon). I don't know where that is, but I'm sure you can find it. When you have the daedric (lodestone) bring it to (building) here in town. There you will meet (master's name), and (he/she) will give you the (Chrysamere)."
Decline[edit]
The merchant or innkeeper answers:
- "Forget you ever saw me. I have powerful friends. If you cause me any trouble, they will hunt you down like a rogue thief."
Deals with Daedra[edit]
Head to the specified dungeon and search for the lodestone within. Unfortunately, the item is currently in the possession of a guardian - a Daedra Seducer. Attack her, and she will offer you a deal:
- "I will fight you to the death to protect the daedric (lodestone). You should know that (master's name) is not what (he/she) seems. The (Chrysamere) is a long lost item of great power that (he/she) has never owned. (He/She) means to kill you once (he/she) has possession of the daedric (lodestone). Cease this futile attack and I will give you a magical token that can render (master's name) helpless. If you kill (him/her), I can see to it that the Mages Guild looks favorably upon you for quite some time. Do you accept my offer?"
Despite appearances, you actually have three choices on how to proceed:
Accept her offer[edit]
If you agree to the Daedra Seducer's offer, she adds:
- "Take this token then."
Instead of the lodestone, she will give you a pearl with which you will be able to destroy the magical illusion used by your employer's master.
Decline her offer[edit]
She screams:
- "Prepare to die!"
The Daedra Seducer will then attack. Send her back to Oblivion and get the lodestone from her body. Beware, as a trio of daedroths will appear after her demise to exact revenge.
Accept her offer, but kill her anyway[edit]
Once attacked, the Daedra Seducer says:
- "You have a truly devious mind. I admire that. But you should know that I am not to be trifled with. I take back my token and curse you to be mistrusted by my closest allies."
The pearl will vanish from your inventory after the Daedra Seducer is gone. In addition, three daedroths will appear and attack you. This approach will cost you a large amount of reputation with the Dark Brotherhood and its associated factions.
The Final Showdown[edit]
Make your way back to town. Ask around to find the building where the agent's master is staying and head there. Enter, and give your employer's master either the lodestone or the pearl. If you hand over the lodestone, you are told:
- "Fool! Did you really think that I would give you the (Chrysamere) for this daedric (lodestone)? The only reward I have for you is death! See me as I really am and tremble in fear. I am (orc warlord's [sic] name). Kill him!"
If you hand over the seducer's pearl, the master will not be so arrogant:
- "Wha ... I have been betrayed! You have broken the illusion and cast a spell of silence on me. That cursed (Daedra seducer) (Daedra Seducer's name) put you up to this, didn't (he/she)? To arms! Help me! To arms!"
In either case, the master will transform into an Orc Shaman. If you turned over the lodestone, it will cast Shield and Magic Reflection spells on your opponent. If you chose to cooperate with the Daedra Seducer and return with her pearl, it will cast a Silence spell negating the orc's magical abilities. Additionally, the Orc Shaman will summon an orc warlord to his assistance. Kill both Orcs and loot their corpses.
Reward[edit]
If you delivered the pearl, you will receive following message in your mind upon the Orc Shaman's death:
- "Well done, (player's name). Slaying (master's name), or (Orc Shaman's name) as (he/she) is known to (his/her) own people, has earned you a reward. Members of the Mage's Guild now trust you far more than before."

Enemies[edit]
- Random dungeon monsters
- Quest Target: One Orc Shaman
- Guardian: One Daedra Seducer
- 3x One Daedroth every one in-game minute after the Daedra Seducer has been disposed
- One Orc Warlord after the Orc Shaman has revealed his true identity
Notes[edit]
- According to the questfile, the quest's overall time limit is 90 days. There is a second time limit with a duration of 30 in-game minutes after the Orc Shaman is killed, which will end the quest.
- Even if you kill the Orc Shaman, you will lose 2 reputation with The Merchants, this cannot be avoided.
- If you keep the lodestone, it will remain in your inventory and won't vanish once the quest is over, unlike most quest items.
Bugs[edit]
- The Orc Shaman will call himself the Orc Warlord's name because the quest variables are interchanged. Since all Orcs have similar random names, this only becomes evident when the questfile is examined in detail.
- DFQFIX corrects this error; the Orc Shaman now uses his own name.
- You will always lose reputation with the Dark Brotherhood when you kill the Seducer, whether you betrayed her or not. This is clearly an oversight since it seems more logical to lose reputation only if you betrayed her.
- DFQFIX also fixes this; you will only lose reputation and face the daedroths if you betray the Daedra Seducer.
- The shaman tells the Orc Warlord to "Kill him!", referring to you. He says this even if your character is female.
- Both the Orc Shaman and the Daedra Seducer are randomly assigned genders in the quest dialogue, though there are only male Orc Shaman and female Daedra Seducer models in the game.
Additional Dialogue[edit]
If you ask an NPC about Chrysamere, they may say:
- "The Chrysamere is an ancient artifact of great power."
- "It is a legendary magical artifact."
After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "I hear the king is making an important announcement next week."
If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "Some poor fool went into (dungeon). I hear the place is full of demons."
If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "Stay away from (master's name). I hear (he/she) is a liar and a cheat."
If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:
- "Sorry about the incident with (master's name). I suppose I ought to help you just to make up for it."
If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:
- "That business with (master's name) wasn't my fault. I'm not about to get mixed up with you now, so just leave me alone."
