The Abanabi Caves runs beneath Zafirbel Bay in the Azura's Coast region of Morrowind. A surface entrance to one section of the cave can be found southeast of the Telvanni city of Sadrith Mora and northeast of Tel Fyr. Another section of the cave could be accessed directly from Tel Fyr. Along with Abaelun Mine and Dun-Ahhe it is one of the few places in Vvardenfell where diamonds occur.

History

In the Second Era, the partly-flooded cave was home to a forest of extraordinarily rare, bizarre, bioluminescent, and possibly sentient land-coral which thrived in the cavern, likely due to a nearby aquifer. The caverns teemed with life and had a palpable divine warmth, which was compared to the energy one felt in close proximity to the Tribunal. Circa 2E 582, the powerful Dunmer mage Divayth Fyr was made an honorary member of Great House Telvanni and was gifted land in Zafirbel Bay to create his tower of Tel Fyr. Divayth planned to extend his tower into the cavern until a portal to the Clockwork City inexplicably opened up inside the cave, spilling out Refabricants and Fabricants from the Halls of Fabrication. These clockwork monstrosities decimated the local wildlife such as the kwama colony and dreugh which inhabited the cave. The Fabricant threat was neutralized when a large group of Undaunted accompanied Divayth into the cave and entered Clockwork City to disable their production, allowing Divayth to study the portal.

By the Third Era, most of the cavern had been converted into the Corprusarium, which would house victims of Corprus, the "divine disease". One such resident was Yagrum Bagarn, the last Dwemer. An unconnected section of Abanabi remained accessible from the surface. It is unknown if this section of the cave which shares its name was once connected to area Divayth Fyr would convert to the Corprusarium. It would become occupied by a pair of hostile sorceresses. One of these sorceresses, Draramu Hloran, came into possession of Chrysamere, although it was recovered from her by the Nerevarine in 3E 427 at the request of the Imperial Legion.
