Alessia Caro (née Valga) was the countess of Leyawiin during the late Third Era. She was the daughter of Count Charus Valga and Countess Arriana Valga of Chorrol.[1] Charus was killed in battle against Nord clansmen of Skyrim, and Alessia regularly visited her mother.[1][2] Around 3E 432, she wed the count of Leyawiin, Marius Caro.[3][2] She and her husband were from prominent Cyrodilic families, and it was widely speculated they would eventually be on the Elder Council.[4] It was rumored that she was the real power behind the throne, not her husband.[5]
The union of Alessia and Marius was considered a perfect blend of love and wise political maneuvering, as they seemed to be well-matched on a personal level and were both staunch supporters of Imperialization in Leyawiin.[3][2] The Caros' encouragement of Imperialization in Leyawiin divided its citizens; some of the city's residents supported this policy, while the Argonians and Khajiit favored the cosmopolitanism that had traditionally defined Leyawiin.[6][7][8][9] Caro was uncomfortable with Argonian, Khajiit, and Dunmer ways, but she especially disliked Argonians.[7][10] There were rumors that Alessia and Marius had a secret torture room in Castle Leyawiin, where they tortured Argonian immigrants from Black Marsh.[11][12] The servants whispered that the Argonians were dragged into the basement and never seen again.[12]
Caro was renowned for her beauty, wit, and grace.[1][8][13] She occasionally held formal dinner parties in Castle Leyawiin, but during one of these, an unknown assailant cast a spell on the Countess and her guests that stripped them of all their possessions—clothes included.[13][14]
Alessia bore several daughters with Marius in the early Fourth Era. By 4E 48, her daughters had become infamous for poisoning guests to Leyawiin's court.[15]:26
