Cuilean Darnizhaan was a great sage and member of the Psijic Order. In life, they were the Psijic Proctor of Abyssal Fragments and are quoted by scholarly institutions like the School of Julianos with "The power of knowledge is infinite: The power of ignorance shatter ebony like glass".

Cuilean believed that no subject is too trivial to warrant research and discovery, and that "the greater scheme of things" is too broad of a concept, hence the creation of his most recited quote. This belief led him down the path to study Detritus, a demi-plane of Oblivion and the realm of the Daedra Lord, Hollowjack. Cuilean labeled people constantly targeted by Hollowjack's fear feeding as "Hollowjack's Haunted". Taking cases of his "hauntings" in the Psijic Order's library and his research, he wrote a treatise on Hollowjack called Lord Hollowjack's Dread Realm.
