Lore:Frog-Metal
Frog-Metal (also called Buoyant Steel[1] or Syrabane's Steel)[2] is a rare and highly valued alchemical alloy first discovered by Syrabane, the Aldmeri ancestor-god of magic in the mid-First Era.[1] As one of its names suggests, the metal is incredibly light, so much so that it can float in water. Seafarers and warriors of the Abecean Sea often wore frog-metal armor to ride the waves fearlessly, but over time it was nigh extinct. It was particularly valued by those from Amenos, an island in the Systres Archipelago.[1][2]
History[edit]
Frog-Metal was discovered by Syrabane, the Aldmeri warlock that joined Bendu Olo in his mission to seek justice against the Sload of Thras.[1][3] Syrabane fashioned the metal into armor for early Elven mariners[1] and since then, it has been a staple among travelers and sea knights around Amenos and the Abecean Sea.[2]
In the twenty-ninth century of the First Era, vast troves of Frog-Metal were discovered underneath Amenos and it bolstered a shift in industry for many on the island from fishing to mining the alloy.[4] Though Frog-Metal from Amenos is still traded,[5] over time, Frog-Metal became increasingly rare. The writer, Matthias Vervins transcribed an old text on how to create frog-metal armor from a knight hailing from antiquity.[2]
At some point in time, samples of frog-metal were recovered from Stros M'Kai by the Antiquarian Circle in the mid-Second Era. These samples were then forged into Thrassian Stranglers, gauntlets that wield Sload magic.[1]
