The Fulcrum Obscura

The Fulcrum Obscura is an artifact created by Prior Durdryn of the Keepers of the Dead with the assistance of Hermaeus Mora. It was said to be able to recover lost and forgotten memories, of names and knowledge, even from the dead.[1]

Durdryn was well known for his knowledge of Daedra and his association with the Tribunal Gods. At some point, Vivec gifted the Prior a tusk from some unknown beast and asked him to create a relic from it. After several days of meditation, Durdryn summoned Hermaeus Mora to assist in creating this item. The details are unknown in regard to any bargains made between the pair, but soon after the Fulcrum Obscura was presented to Vivec.[1]

There are no stories suggesting Vivec ever used the Fulcrum, but there were several rumors over the years of Durdryn's use of the relic. In the last years of his life, Durdryn became increasingly obsessed with his creation and withdrew from society, and allegedly starved to death.[1]

After Prior Durdryn's death, his fellow Keepers declined to use the relic, fearing its power and influence. It was then interred in Durdryn's tomb within the Necrom Necropolis, where is remained until some time around 2E 582.[1][2]

The Hidden Kindred cultists in service of their Princes and with the assistance of the Dremora Torvesard infiltrated the Necropolis to steal the Fulcrum Obscura. While their plan was disrupted, Torvesard managed to take half of the Fulcrum with him, and was able to use it to recover long-lost information that had dangerous consequences for the world.[2]

At some point after this, the Fulcrum was handed over to the Hidden Kindred Leader Blightcrown. When Blightcrown was confronted and slain within the Mythos of Apocrypha, the missing half of the Fulcrum Obscura was retrieved by one of the Keepers and returned to its rightful place within the Necropolis.[3]
