Lore:Groundsplitters
The Groundsplitters are a pair of sabatons associated with the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon. Their enchantment reflects their creator's obsession with destruction: this artifact causes the wearer's strides to be comparable to that of a Giant, despite a lack of significant weight when not worn.[1] These sollerets are essentially a weapon capable of turning those it kicks into paste.[2] On a larger scale, a forceful stomp is capable of creating fissures; should the bearer of this artifact be careless, they can end up a statistic in a catastrophe of their own making.[1]
The boots were granted to an Orcish warlord named Bargh the Avalanche, who was speculated to have received the boots from Dagon himself for wreaking havoc across High Rock with his band of marauders. The Bretonic Knights of the Silver Rose crusaded to protect Tamriel from Daedric threats, leading them to war against the Orc. The knights achieved their victory when Bargh caused his own demise, ending up crushed beneath a pile of rubble. The artifact was looted off his corpse and stored in the order's vaults.[1]
By 2E 582, the Knights of the Silver Rose became corrupted by the influence of the various Daedric artifacts they possessed. Eliam Merick of the order was granted the boots, and attempted to fight back against the combined might of the Undaunted and Lyranth the Foolkiller. He was slain, and his boots were looted by the order's knight-commander, Thierric Sarazen. Despite his usage of several artifacts including the Groundsplitters, the Duplici Gladio, and the Opal Charm, he too was slain.[3] The boots and the rest of the artifacts in the knightly order's vaults were then sacked by the Undaunted.[4]
