Lore:Jewel of the Sphinx
The Jewel of the Sphinx was a highly valued artifact, regarded as one of the most renowned relics of Khenarthi's priesthood. It was described as Khenarthi's prized jewel.[1]
History[edit]
Second Era[edit]
At some point before 2E 582, Chronicler Firandil of the Mages Guild traveled to a Khajiiti temple, where Priest Sazarali agreed to let him and his fellow mages study the Jewel of the Sphinx in exchange for their search for the temple's ancient secrets. An agreement was made, stating that as long as Firandil explored the temple's hidden knowledge, Warlock Ulelfanya and the other mages of the Guild would be permitted to study the jewel. This arrangement was considered a diplomatic success between the priesthood and the guild.[1]
Notes[edit]
- Sphinxes are associated with the province of Elsweyr. Igon, the Sphinx of Canus, and Agamanus, the Sphinx of Gaiza, are revered entities in Elsweyr,[2] with the latter having a temple dedicated to him, known as the Temple of Agamanus.[3] Fort Sphinxmoth is also a prominent location within the province.[4]
- Khenarthi is depicted in tapestries in the form resembling a real-world Greek Spynx.[5]
