Uthard Scoth was a Breton man who claimed descent from a fallen royal bloodline. It was believed that he was a son of Princess Rayelle, the daughter of the King Ranser.[1]:19-20

History[edit]

According to his own account, as well as the testimony of those who cared for him, Uthard was conceived just before the outbreak of Ranser's War in 2E 566,[1]:19-20[2] but the royal family never acknowledged him. He had no contact with his parents, though he was always well cared for financially.[1]:19-20

By 2E 582, he was a handsome young man in his late teens or early 20s. Around this time, he reached out to the Fighters Guild in a back room of the Rosy Lion Inn in Daggerfall, seeking patronage and protection. With recent events making every citizen of High Rock with royal blood a potential target, he sought a way out of the region for his safety. Uthard had no interest in politics and wished to avoid being used as a pawn in the nobles' schemes. Given the risks of using Breton ports, which were being watched by thugs looking for someone matching his description, he decided to head to Wrothgar, where he had made some friends during past travels. He had been assured he could use a discreet safehouse in Fharun Stronghold and only required an escort to reach Wrothgar.[1]:19-20

By this time, he was already being followed by people from around Daggerfall and had nearly fallen prey to their ambushes on more than one occasion. On one such instance, he managed to scare off an assailant and found a cryptic message left behind—a scrap of parchment that had fallen from the attacker's robe.[1]:19-20 The note was hastily scribbled on a page from Ancient Battlefields of High Rock. The Fighters Guild agents successfully escorted him to Fharun Stronghold, ensuring his safety along the way. His guardians in the Fighters Guild regarded him as a well-spoken and intelligent individual, appreciative of their escort. From Fharun, he made his way to Summerset.[1]:39
