A researcher and his apprentice are experimenting with an amulet that protects the wearer from wamasu lightning.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Gathotar, southeast of Chid-Moska near the Blackwood gate.
  2. Find Drulis.
  3. Collect wamasu lightning.
  4. Return to Gathotar.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Speak to Gathotar to begin the quest. He appears to need a new assistant for his research, which involves wamasu lightning. His current assistant, named Drulis, refuses to participate. Gathotar needs someone to irritate a wamasu until it emits lightning while wearing a specialized amulet. He claims that his research may allow for a safe and efficient way of harvesting magicka from sources like wamasu lightning. However, it's obvious why Drulis doesn't want to participate.

You'll find Drulis along the coastline, south of Hissmir. Speak to him:

"Did Gathotar send you? What's he want now? Shall I strip naked and chase thunderbugs?"
Gathotar needs to collect wamasu lightning.
"That's his problem. He must be crazy if he thinks I'll suffer through another of his experiments.
Did he tell you about the magicka-storing belt? Nearly cut me in two."
He wants to store magicka in the amulet as well.
"He's tried that too many times to count, and I have the scars to prove it.
I've been bait for cave trolls and dug through dung piles, but getting myself shocked to death isn't research. It's torture."
What's so special about the amulet?
"The amulet would be a catalyst for spells Gathotar has been researching. He hopes to use it to recharge staves more quickly.
Well, I found a wamasu for him, but I won't be his test guar any longer."
[Persuade] The amulet sounds safe. I'm sure he means you no harm.
"Perhaps you're right. He hasn't killed me yet.
Though he might succeed this time. Let him know I'll test it shortly."
If you won't collect the lightning, I will.
"Be my guest, but I warned you. All of Gathotar's experiments result in blood loss.
That flat-head still blames me for the failure of his Wand of Satiation."

Charging the Amulet Yourself[edit]

If you decide to charge the amulet yourself, you'll need to find a wamasu. There is are several wamasu along the shoreline near Gathotar. Any of them can be engaged in combat, and you'll receive an activation prompt to use Gathotar's amulet. Obey the prompt to charge the amulet three times. Once the amulet is fully charged, return to Gathotar and speak to him to complete the quest.

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
