Kickback reduces the penalties you must pay to guards or fences if you are caught committing a crime. Though you could just escape and stay away from towns or cities until your bounty goes away on its own, a very large bounty can take a long time to clear. This can bring the payable total down to manageable levels that can be offset by fencing some fine or better quality contraband.
