Remodel from Small House to Entryway Bugs[edit]

Some notes on bugs related to converting the small house to an entry hall: a bench and oval entryway rug are part of the fully upgraded Entry Hall, but they can't be crafted by the player since they were omitted from the crafting bench, so only your Steward can enable these additions. If this area was previously used as a small home, and you've opted to convert it into an entry hall, not all of the furniture from its previous "small home" will disappear. The end table with candles will remain, and this will conflict with the bench that the steward adds if you allow him/her to decorate, as will the wall hanging on the right of the door to the main hall- it will clip through the "improved" wall hanging that should replace it. I bypassed these visual errors when building my second home by simply not furnishing the small house at all, converting it to an entry hall as soon as was possible, and letting my steward handle all the decorations for the entry hall from there on. 24.22.241.1 16:44, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

I've got the same problem with the bench-dresser conundrum. Scouts-Many-Marshes will occasionally sit on the side of the bench that is clipped into the dresser, causing anything on the dresser to go flying across the room. It's rather funny, but frankly breaks the illusion of the game. Thank you for the tips. -Light-in-His-Eyes (talk) 04:31, 17 May 2013 (GMT)

Cellar "doorway"?[edit]

Does anyone know the purpose of the "doorway" shape in the wall to the left just after you descend the ladder into the cellar? Since nothing occupies that space, I was hoping it would lead to some other room/secret area/etc. eventually, but nothing ever seems to "fill it in". Could it be something the devs had a purpose for, but that never made it into the final product? ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 05:35, 2 October 2012 (GMT)

If you're a vampire, you can put a standing coffin there for sleeping. The option doesn't appear for non-vampire characters. — ABCface 05:37, 2 October 2012 (GMT)
Aha! I see. I had heard about the coffin, but didn't realize that was the space for it. Makes perfect sense now. Thanks for the info. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 05:45, 2 October 2012 (GMT)

Steward Decorating[edit]

If you're not a fan of animal heads, don't ask your steward to decorate. Because you're getting animal heads. --108.193.32.209 03:05, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

I'm pretty sure that having your steward furnish the house will eventually result in all furnishing options being built, so this applies to anything you may not like in any part of your home. This is the benefit of choosing furnishing options to build yourself, rather than hiring someone to do it for you. I'll add a note to the Steward page about this. — ABCface 03:29, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

Unsafe containers[edit]

Standing in a fully upgraded entryway facing toward the door to the outside, to the right of the door is a barrel with a large sack immediately to its left and a small sack on top of it. The small sack is NOT safe for storage, or at least wasn't for me. Is anyone else able to confirm this? This was in Windstad Manor, though I suspect the problem may carry over to the other houses. I am now fearful to store things in the house at all for fear that other containers may be unsafe as well. PC version. Aviin (talk) 02:25, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

Logging back into game this evening, I now realize that both the small sack and large sack are duplicated (two copies of each sack exist in exactly the same space). By sliding my view slowly over each, I see the bags shifting from saying they are empty to saying they are not empty. So I guess they likely ARE safe, but getting the correct one is just a matter of shifting one's view a bit. A couple quick console commands to remove the duplicates will fix it, but there is definitely a bug there, though whether or not it is widespread or just occurring for me remains to be seen. Aviin (talk) 02:42, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

This explains behavior I have observed in my own Windstad Manor. I use that larger bag for my "junk" dropoff (stuff I don't want to keep or sell I just stick in that sack). I found it odd that last time I stuck some stuff in there it was registering as Empty. I didn't really care since it's "junk", but now I think I may have been seeing Aviin's duplicate sack. Next time I play I'll check for sure. I'm on the XBox version. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 05:15, 9 October 2012 (GMT)
Update - I checked on this and Aviin is correct. Both the large and small sacks in that corner are doubled (meaning there are two sacks sharing the same space). As you move, the pointer switches between the two very quickly. It's pretty wild. Good call by Aviin. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 19:41, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

Main Hall Cooking Pot[edit]

Not sure if this really counts as a bug or not, but I was randomly shooting arrows around Lakeview Manor and noticed that when I hit the side of the cooking pot, the arrow disappeared. I realize this is inconsequential, but thought it was interesting and was also wondering if all cooking pots had this "bug".

Note: Only disappears when shooting the outsides of the pot. If shot into the bottom of the pot from above, the arrow bounced out as would be expected. — Unsigned comment by LittleIgo (talkcontribs) at 10:06 on 16 October 2012

Mead Barrels[edit]

Does anyone know how long it takes for the mead barrels to refill? or if they do at all? --134.39.74.45 22:32, 22 October 2012 (GMT)

They do not seem to respawn with the rest of the house after ten days, so I don't think they respawn at all. Wrath425 (talk) 05:54, 13 December 2013 (GMT)
They do respawn when the rest of the house does. At least they have for me, on PS3. Kellynne (talk) 16:04, 11 February 2014 (GMT)

Listing the Full Count of Materials[edit]

Each room has its own "full count" of all the materials needed to furnish that room, but there is no full "master list" of materials telling you the total amount needed to furnish ALL of the rooms in a single go. I would add this list I've made to the main page, but I'd rather a more experienced editor did so. This list includes the materials for the shrines minus the amulets, but not the coffin. Sorry if the count on anything is off.

180 Nails, 127 Sawn Logs, 48 Iron Fittings, 28 Leather Strips, 8 Sabre Cat Teeth, 14 Goat Horns, 5 Deer Hides, 12 Glass, 36 Hinges, 6 Large Antlers, 3 Bear Pelts, 31 Iron Ingots, 1 Sabre Cat Pelts, 3 Sabre Cat Snow Pelts, 22 Quarried Stone, 8 Slaughterfish Scales, 2 Horker Tusks, 17 Locks, 2 Mudcrab Chitin, 1 Goat Hides, 3 Gold Ingots, 1 Grand Soul Gem, 3 Quicksilver Ingots, 3 Refined Moonstone, 36 Steel Ingots, 8 Straw, 3 Wolf Pelts, 8 Clay, 1 Small Antlers, 1 Corundum Ingot, 2 Orichalcum Ingots, 2 Ebony Ingots, 2 Refined Malachite, 1 Flawless Amethyst, 4 Silver Ingots, 1 Flawless Sapphire, 1 Dragon Bone, 1 Dragon Scale — Unsigned comment by 99.6.26.115 (talk) at 23:00 on 1 November 2012

Thanks for pointing out the lack of this information, I didn't think about that when creating the page. I'll try to figure out a good way to add this information so that it flows with the rest of the article and isn't formatted too strangely. Then I'll add the full count of the total materials required sometime later tonight. Thanks for pointing out the need for this! — ABCface 01:32, 2 November 2012 (GMT)
No problem, I love helping out. I'd also recommend double checking my totals. I'd like to think I was pretty meticulous but I almost missed certain things that actually aren't listed in the final totals for each room. The final totals for each room probably need to be double checked against the lists for each furnishing. — Unsigned comment by 99.6.26.115 (talk) at 03:56 on 3 November 2012‎
All right, I've started going through the page and re-adding the totals. Apparently I missed more than I realized, which I guess was bound to happen since I created all eleven pages in this category in one go. It'll take me a little longer to go through the rest of the page and make sure it's all correct before I get around to adding the total count, but it should be done within the next couple days for sure.
Also, since I haven't done so yet, I'll note that I'm hesitant to do an actual "full count" of total materials for the entire page since the entryway and cellar are completely separate from the other three parts of the main hall (and some players may choose to either not remodel the small house into entryway, or not build the cellar). I can see the want for this though, so I may end up making two new totals lists instead of one. One would include everything, including the entryway and cellar. The other would just be for the main part of the main hall (which was only divided into three parts to help with organization of the page). — ABCface 04:01, 4 November 2012 (GMT)

Hi guys, I did a count and keep coming up with 36 sawn log for furnishings in the Main Hall: Cellar. Could someone confirm the count is 36 (currently page shows 41).

Cellar clipping error on 360[edit]

I've only had this happen to me once, and it hasn't come back, so I think it's just a one-time error, but just in case. Basement of Lakeview Manor, had all the safes, crafting equipment, and chests installed. The floor between one set of 5 safes and the forge suddenly turned blue and I fell through it, to land in front of the forge. It continued to do so for the rest of that gaming session, but has not done so since. I suspect it's a one of a kind thing, but it's obviously not caused by mods (360). Anyone seen anything fun like that before? Agmen (talk) 20:57, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

I've experienced the same with a wall (PC-User). As it's still the same gaming session, I hope it will be gone eventually. — Unsigned comment by 80.130.190.141 (talk) at 00:37 on 24 March 2013
I've seen this glitch before, but it's normally a one-off glitch. It'll happen from time to time, but normally ends up with your character safely back on solid ground. Don't fret about it too much unless it happens more than a few times per session. -Light-in-His-Eyes (talk) 04:34, 17 May 2013 (GMT)

Coffin w/o Dawnguard[edit]

Could someone with Hearthfire but not Dawnguard confirm whether you can still build the coffin? --Darth l33t (talk) 20:12, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

Verification - Mounted Elk Head[edit]

This does appear to be the case, as after I created the head on the downstairs workbench, the option disappeared from the upstairs workbench. (In-game, Xbox 360, in Lakeview Manor.) --Enodoc (talk) 17:52, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

Thanks for the verification, I'll go ahead and remove that tag from the page. — ABCface 19:04, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

Entry Room Bug[edit]

I've assigned my steward and asked her to furnish my entry room but she says that I can't afford it, I checked the amount of gold I have and it said that I had 40x more than what was needed! I'm using the Xbox 360 version, is there any way someone can help me? — Unsigned comment by 83.67.17.102 (talk) at 19:24 on 6 April 2013

Cellar Doorway Wall Sconces[edit]

On the North side doorway the option to build 2 wall sconces seems to only build one on the side closer to the mead barrels. The other side of the doorway does not contain a wall sconce. This is in my Lakeview Manor home on Xbox 360 Can anyone else confirm this?--72.91.149.47 22:00, 22 June 2013 (GMT)Archmage Darium

Confirmed here by two others and by me as well. Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 00:28, 6 February 2014 (GMT)
I would like to add that this is for the Lakeview Cellar specifically, was your wall sconce missing in another house as well?Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 00:29, 6 February 2014 (GMT)

Main Hall: Cellar - Missing furnishing options[edit]

I've found what appears to be a glitch in my Heljarchen Hall cellar on Xbox360.

I am missing a few of the furnishing options on the cellar workbench, when compared to the UESP Main Hall cellar page.

The following are missing for me:

- Display Case on Low Table - Low Table - only 3 Barrels choices rather than 4 - only 1 Corner Shelf choice rather than 2 - only 1 Wall Shelves (2) choice rather than 2 - only 1 Mounted Bear Head choice rather than 2 - no option for Mounted Snowy Sabre Cat Head - only 2 Wall Sconce (2) choices rather than 4

I've tried exiting the workbench and re-entering it and leaving the cellar and returning did not work. Reloading much older save games gave the options back but man do I not want to do all that shopping again.....

Has anyone seen or managed to resolve this issue before?

Random skeever infestation in the cellar[edit]

(PS3 user) Just a note to add that one of the three skeevers is friendly and won't attack. When using detect life (or detect dead) it even has a different color. Also, according to Prima's "Legendary Edition" guide, if this particular skeever is left alive then the infestations stop for good (I haven't had a chance to verify this.MrC (talk) 02:04, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

I now have 3 friendly skeevers living in my Lakeview cellar on PS3. Apparently that's still not working to stop infestations. Not that I mind. They are cute, in a rough way, but it's getting crowded down there. Am I getting the infestations for my other homes here, instead? Kellynne (talk) 16:02, 11 February 2014 (GMT)
Confirmed that this does not work on PC. I just went to the cellar in Lakeview Manor and had another infestation despite the presence of the "friendly" skeever. I now have no skeevers in my cellar. I'm not running a flop house here, this is a classy establishment; you pull your weight or you can't stay. 71.122.204.93 00:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Cellar Trapdoor Disappeared[edit]

The Door to the Cellar in Heljarchen Hall Disappeared? — Unsigned comment by 66.87.105.177 (talk) at 01:29 on 2 February 2014 (GMT)

When did it happen? What platform are you playing? If PC, do you have any mods or unofficial patches installed? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:14, 13 February 2014 (GMT)

Phantom Skeevers[edit]

I'm currently playing PC via Steam, purchased with all DLC packages. I've built all 3 homesteads, I have the family currently staying at Lakeview, the only one of the three in which I don't have a cellar (I didn't bother because it's mostly my Alchemy house, Windstad is where I do my smithing and enchanting). Both my daughter and my steward have now commented on hearing strange noises coming from downstairs. Now I'm stuck with the decision to just not deal with it (and have the dialogue continue), "create" the cellar to kill some skeevers, but leave it unfinished, or go through the "grinding" to collect all the building materials for a third time. So is a skeever infestation inevitable even if you don't have a valid place for them to infest, or is my game an anomaly? - 173.212.101.126 00:16, 4 May 2014 (GMT)

Lakeview Kitchen Missing Barrels[edit]

Just as it says, i've built this house atleast 40-50 times on various files and this is the first time it's happened. The barrel in the far back opposite side as the oven that usually has the small keg on it is just not there, with no option to build it again (as I did initially craft every feature from the workbench save the animal mounts, which are still there to be crafted). Seems to be missing whatever goes next to the oven as well, big empty space, but I don't remember what should be there. Entering/exiting did nothing, and I lack any save files that aren't STUPIDLY far back to try and correct it so i'm just moving forward. I'll attempt to have my steward do the decorations and see if they add it back in, i'll update this then. — Unsigned comment by 96.59.135.89 (talk) at 00:01 on 13 July 2014

I don't know if my issues (it may not be a glitch for all I know) are related to yours. Here's what happens with me: I would like to build everything possible in Lakeview Manof. The back rooms of the main hall area (ground floor and floor above, to be specific) reset/cancel out what is craftable in the workbench menu (or it may change dramatically—the options). P.S. I haven't played Skyrim in ages so I may be a bit of a noob when it comes to my knowledge. Dragon Guard  (talk) 14:49, 11 April 2015 (GMT)
You know the workbench in the main hall through the left side archway—the one by the end wall? Well you know the stairs before it—you go up and keep heading forwards until you get to the second workbench? I create items on one of them, then go down and find more items have suddenly appeared in the menu of the next one. It is like a cycle—it just keeps repeating, something like that. Dragon Guard  (talk) 16:29, 11 April 2015 (GMT)

Missing Anvil in Main Hall[edit]

In one of my game files, my Lakeview Manor house's Main Hall workbench is missing the option to build the Anvil in the North Room on the First Floor. I've checked the other Main Hall workbenches in case it glitched over to one of them with no luck. My workbench doesn't give me the option to build the Anvil and it has not already been crafted. Has anyone else experienced this in any of your Player-Built homes? Chocoholic (talk) 23:36, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Turn Entryway back to Small House[edit]

Is there any way to turn the entryway back to the small house layout? I haven't added any entryway furniture nor did I add any small house furniture, but now I'm regretting having changed it to entryway and was wondering if there was any way to go back? 191.177.183.170 23:43, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

No, there isn't...unless you count re-loading an older game, of course. If you're on a PC, you could probably do it with the Console eventually, but it would require a lot of work, and I'd be concerned about the reliability of the result. Even one small thing that was missed could lead to very bizarre situations with the house, and they're already known for being buggy at times due to their complexity. Robin Hood  (talk) 00:00, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
I was afraid so :/ I could try to use the console, but, as you said, it would probably become horrific and unstable. But thanks for the speedy response! 191.177.183.170 00:14, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Safes in cellar removing "stolen" tag from items?[edit]

Has anyone been able to remove the stolen tag using the cellar safes? Says on the wiki page that they do, but that hasn't been the case for me. When you put the item in the safe, and then view it in the safe, it has no Stolen tag. But then when you take it out and add it back to your inventory the tag is right where it always is. This is the case with cupboards as well. Torkoal (talk) 05:25, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

In my experience, no containers anywhere remove the Stolen tag, and I specifically tested those safes. I suspect the person who wrote that either got confused about what the safes do, used misleading terms, or had a glitch. Many of the containers in the player homes do not show that an item is stolen.24.159.122.98 20:27, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
