First encounter[edit]

I can't recall where, but I've seen these people and they're not friendly. I approached them (note I did NOT join the companions at all nor am I a werewolf) but they suddenly brandished their silver swords and came at me without reason. So, I killed them all.

Silver Hands seem to be renamed Bandits[edit]

I noticed this while doing the "Kill a Silver Hand Leader" quest for Aela. The conversation they were having when just out of sight [and just in hearing range] was identical to most Bandit dungeon chatter. The "Silver Hand Leader" also had a "Bandit Journal" on him which said nothing about the Silver Hands [he also was dressed like, and fought like, a Bandit Thug rather than anything/anyone special].

This could explain why they become wary/aggressive if you approach their camps [even when not part of the Companions]. They are not a truly unique faction, just bandits in different costumes [which, for me, takes away from their intrigue a bit - instead of being a potentially interesting enemy [or, if Bethesda had looked into it, friendly] faction].

Silver Hand camps are located in many places, sometimes spawning in ruins/forts/etc that were occupied by Bandits prior to a quest activating them [which is why you will sometimes run across dead bandits in their areas - same with places you go in the MQ now and then].

They spawn just as bandits do for the radiant quests you get on them, but they do have particular strongholds. 90-95% also carry silver weapons (to my knowledge the only in the game) that are effective against undead, vampires, and werewolves. The thing about the leader sounds like a bug, mine have always been in full plate with either sword and shield or a greatsword, both silver.Ikthyace 17:30, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Silver Hand group sent Hired Thugs after I ransacked one of their keeps.[edit]

I entered one keep that was populated by Silver Hand NPC's, and after killing them all, I grabbed a couple of alchemy ingredients that were apparently owned items. A few game days later, two Hired Thugs attacked me and the contract was from the Silver Hand. lol Torinir 19:44, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Simple English Anyone?[edit]

"The Silver Hand is a group of werewolf hunters." how about "The Silver Hand are a group of werewolf hunters."? — Unsigned comment by Tsxgrimreaper (talkcontribs) at 22:37 on 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Since it's referring to the group as a whole, you can treat it as a singular entity. Therefore, you can use a singular verb in that sentence. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 22:37, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
But then you need to continue to treat it as a singular noun: "The Silver Hand is a group that hunts werewolves." or "The Silver Hand is a group comprised of werewolf hunters.".--76.67.99.137 22:02, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
That is not necessarily true. It is fine as is.--Br3admax (talk) 22:37, 23 November 2012 (GMT)

Non-Aggressive Silver Hand[edit]

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but I was in Faldar's Tooth doing the Stealing Plans quest, and when I entered the tower that the plans are located in, at the base was a non-aggressive silver hand member leaning against the wall. He just stood there and watched me, and if I spoke to him he would say simple generic responses like "Need something?" Has anyone else seen this? Shadowrose6663 23:26, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Update: It seems this was just a bug. After I gave up investigating him, I went to leave to move on to other quests, and a couple pit wolves attacked me. As soon as I entered combat with them, the Silver Hand became hostile. Shadowrose6663 23:31, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Immune to damage[edit]

Hello,

Has anyone noticed (PS 3 patch 1.08) that Silver Hand is immune to physical damage? Had that today both in Dustman and Gallows. Whaling away with Mace of Molag Bal, their red health bars never budged. Aela was rather useless as a result. Fortunately I had some decent Destruction and the Ice Form Word, or I'd have never gotten through Krev the Skinner.

Anyone confirm? 66.69.47.166 03:18, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

Bandits turned to silver hand[edit]

I have a bandit chief thrall and went to treva's watch during the retrieval companions quest. The bandits in the fort were replaced by silver hand as expected, but my thrall was renamed silver hand and had loot that he didn't have before such as potion of cure disease and a silver sword. — Unsigned comment by 69.116.246.42 (talk) at 01:11 on 3 August 2013

Silver Hand Random Encounters[edit]

I encountered Silver Hands twice now in the wilds. Once a couple dead ones west of Honningbrew Meadery between the rocks. And just now I was attacked by a sole Silver Hand at a Random Encounter spawn point and she had a bounty note for my head (including my name). I have a Companions mod, but I have no idea if this encounter comes with that mod. Is there something like that in the vanilla game? 109.40.128.152 08:23, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Can't see anything like that on Skyrim: World Interactions. —Legoless (talk) 09:32, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
