The Baluath Clan (archaically referred to as 'Baalvayn') is a gathering of vampires found primarily within the wastes of the Armun Ashlands. Unlike their nearby and newborn rivals, the Orlukh Clan, the Baluath bloodline has a truly ancient history, and were reputedly the first great vampiric clan within Morrowind. As noted by Sathram Volos, a vampire and historian, their origins lie east of the Thirr River, "before the ash". Sathram makes the additional claim that the clan once "strove to bring down the Tribunate in their infancy". In this respect they were unsuccessful, and at the time of your arrival in Morrowind have been scattered and broken into a few small groupings and many lone hunters.

Beyond the clan's unknown founder, notable vampires in the Baluath Clan's history have included Turon Baluath, who led the half-destroyed clan from their ancestral lands to the relative safety of Armun, and his protege, Vunal, a powerful Elder known as "the Ageless Apprentice". Vunal himself committed suicide up to four years prior to your arrival, yet scattered pieces of his armor appear as rewards through the clan's questline, although only three pieces can be obtained. In current times, the vampire Ofelia can be found leading the largest splinter group from the old Indoril ruin of Khirakai. A leader of another group, Kashshaptu, seeks the reunification of the clan, and can be found underneath Malawius Camp, the former home of an unfortunate (and near-extinct) Ashlander tribe of the same name.

Joining the Baluath Clan[edit]

The vampire Kashshaptu can induct you into the clan, and will do so at the end of the quest Troubles on the Road, assuming that you do not reject her 'gift'. Kashshaptu can be found in a dug out cavern beneath the sole yurt that forms Malawius Camp. Armas Tyravel in Arvud will direct you here if asked about vampires.
