The NPCs on this list are considered "Essential" by the game. If any of them are killed at any time, you will receive a message stating:
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy is severed. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed world you have created. |

Effe-Tei | Mournhold, Royal Palace: Reception Area | Effe-Tei is your only way back to Vvardenfell unless you have a Mark set there or you use a teleport cheat. |
Fedris Hler | Mournhold, Temple District, Reception Area | |

Karrod | Mournhold, Royal Palace: Throne Room | Karrod gives you one of the pieces needed to forge Trueflame, the sword of Nerevarine. |
King Hlaalu Helseth | Mournhold, Royal Palace | Helseth gives you several quests, but once you have finished them and he is of no more use to you, you may kill him. Besides, he's got a really nice ring. |
