Unusual.[edit]

Did you see this. What's going on? Very unusual. --Mankar Camoran 09:26, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Yeah I did. I just unblocked the guy. The problem is usually with dynamic IP addresses - the bot posts from a machine that has the address then somebody else is assigned it. Some poor person ends up blocked having not done anything wrong. It's just one of those things. --RpehTCE 11:06, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
Either that or the computer has a trojan which is doing the bot-posting. Might be wise to recommend a virus scan... --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:18, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
I just noticed it, thanks. But what about User talk:166.87.255.131? It has some good edits and no vandalism. Is it similar to the other one? --Mankar Camoran 11:24, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
Probably. My first instinct is to block whenever we get a nonsense bot. If there's a real human there they can appeal. --RpehTCE 11:31, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
Ok, thanks. I just wanted to make sure. --Mankar Camoran 11:33, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Congrats...[edit]

(cookies moved to jar) Welcome to the 10K club. Looks like you decided to stop at EXACTLY 10000 tonight, pity your last edit had to be just a spam-revert. --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:09, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Wow! I knew I was getting close but hadn't realised I'd actually got there. Thanks for the cookies! --RpehTCE 03:59, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
I hadn't noticed it. I don't know whether you will see it or not, but I have to congratulate you. Well done! --Mankar CamoranTCE 07:57, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Good luck![edit]

You have really disappointed me now. I, particularly, will definitely miss you. You have been of great help to me. And of course, you have done a LOT for the improvement of this site. I wish you all the success in your endeavours, brother. --Mankar CamoranTCE 07:49, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Noooooo...! Well, good luck in whatever else you are going to be doing instead, and I wish there was some way I could talk you out of it. --GuildKnight (Talk) contribs 11:01, 5 November 2007 (EST)
It's a shame you're leaving so suddenly. If it wasn't for you this site would be a lot less tidy and organized as it is now. Good luck to you, I hope you will come back to the wiki some time in the future, since I started on the wiki in June you've probably been one of the best and most useful editors here.--Willyhead 17:05, 5 November 2007 (EST)
I forgot to mention, I really hope you will come back. --Mankar CamoranTCE 07:46, 6 November 2007 (EST)
While I may have joined the site recently, I've been around here a lot longer. The site will definitely miss you and so will I. Hopefully fate will be kind and bring you here again sometime. Until then, take care and all the best!! --Sundar 08:48, 6 November 2007 (EST)
Rob, I know you have my email. You ever want to chit-chat with a fellow nerd, I'm here. Somercy 10:33, 6 November 2007 (EST)
Well, I respect your decision not to disclose your reasons for leaving but, PLEASE, do return. This site cannot afford to lose one of its administrators like this. We need you! Best of luck in your new whatever-you-are-going-to-do-afterwards. (HMSVictory 14:36, 7 November 2007 (EST))

(outdent) Thank you all for your kind words. You really don't know just how much they meant to me, but I'm now feeling guilty since I've decided to change my mind. Please feel free to slap me for causing everybody hassle but let's get back to business! --RpehTCE 15:39, 15 November 2007 (EST)

Hurrah!--Willyhead 16:55, 15 November 2007 (EST)
Welcome back! --Sundar 07:48, 17 November 2007 (EST)
YAY! *Slaps Rpeh for getting him all worked up!* I had hoped something like this would happen. Epiphany by any chance? or just a sudden change of heart? (HMSVictory 12:02, 21 November 2007 (EST))
I hereby also slap you. Don't worry me, Robi. I got enough on my plate without you pulling a stunt like that. Somercy 19:15, 29 November 2007 (EST)

It isn't much, but...[edit]

(cookies moved to jar) For everything. I look forward to someday welcoming you back! --Eshetalk17:40, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Thank you very much! And I know just how you cooked 'em ;) --RpehTCE 16:07, 15 November 2007 (EST)
And formally, welcome back! I knew you couldn't stay away for long :). --Eshetalk21:08, 15 November 2007 (EST)

Welcome Back[edit]

I am really delighted to see you here again. Welcome back! --Mankar CamoranTCE 15:28, 15 November 2007 (EST)

Grief! That was fast! You're probably the reason I couldn't save my own edit, but thank you anyway! --RpehTCE 15:39, 15 November 2007 (EST)
I am so happy you're back! Don't you ever do that again ;-) --GuildKnight (Talk) contribs 18:59, 15 November 2007 (EST)
Hi! We've all missed you so much! Sorry I couldn't post earlier, but anyways...back to work for me... :) Vesna 19:03, 15 November 2007 (EST)
Yes, great to hear you're around again! -- Daveh 20:48, 15 November 2007 (EST)

Warning for Dabest123[edit]

You might want to upgrade that to a block. I'm guessing it's the same person as User:Da Best, who was blocked earlier this week. We probably need to wait for either Daveh or Nephele to confirm they are using the same IP addresses, though. --Gaebrial 05:53, 16 November 2007 (EST)

Thanks for the info. Anything else from that user and I'll block but as I don't have Checkuser permission I can't confirm it's the same one so don't feel justified in doing it at the moment. That was some particularly nasty vandalism though - I couldn't get on the site for quite a while. --RpehTCE 05:57, 16 November 2007 (EST)
Yes, I don't know what he did, but you can't even do a 'diff' on the one edit he made (the one that is not patrolled). --Gaebrial 06:05, 16 November 2007 (EST)
You too? I thought that was something about the proxy at my office. Maybe the Special:Patrol tool will have better luck with that one. --RpehTCE 06:10, 16 November 2007 (EST)
I just ran through the patrol tool, and it didn't come up at all. Maybe because it's already been reverted? --Gaebrial 06:26, 16 November 2007 (EST)
Could be, although I'm sure I've seen reverted pages come up on it before. It could be that it's so weird the Patrol page ignores it. At least Dabest seems to have gone for now. (touch wood) --RpehTCE 06:37, 16 November 2007 (EST)
It actually happened a couple of days ago. Nephele just blocked Dabest without warning, saying he is the new incarnation of User:Granty. So I think it would be better to just block him. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:28, 16 November 2007 (EST)

(outdent) Are you sure? There are several accounts linked to Granty's but I can't see Dabest as one of them... --RpehTCE 08:47, 16 November 2007 (EST)

Two accounts were blocked simultaneously that day. It was very similar to what happened today. One of them was Dabest. In any case it may be better to wait for confirmation from Nephele. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:54, 16 November 2007 (EST)
I've permanently blocked both Da_Best and Dabest123 since CheckUser showed that they both came from the same ISP. Other than coming from the same country, though, it is not obvious that this user is connected to Granty. Da_Best was originally blocked based solely upon vandalism done by the account Da_Best (the account was originally warned on Nov. 13, continued to vandalize after the warning, and then I blocked on Nov. 14; he was not "blocked without warning"). And at this point speculating about further connection is somewhat moot, as both editors now qualify for permanent blocks.
As for the edits, the problem with not being able to view them is a recurring (and somewhat severe) problem that gets triggered by large edits to large pages. Trying to view such edits (either by clicking the diff link on Recent Changes or if you use a RSS/atom feed of the page) will completely freeze up your browser connection to UESP. The server never releases the connection (until Daveh next restarts the server), leading to overall problems with server performance. --NepheleTalk 12:55, 16 November 2007 (EST)
It was Granty who was blocked without warning on Nov. 14 at about the same time as Da Best. That was the reason for the confusion. --Mankar CamoranTCE 13:39, 16 November 2007 (EST)

Questions Page![edit]

Sorry Rpeh. I had no idea he had created a new page for questions. I didn't even see which page it was. I just assumed it was a talk page! I can be a bit careless sometimes. --Mankar CamoranTCE 10:32, 16 November 2007 (EST)

I did wonder! It happens to us all sooner or later... --RpehTCE 10:39, 16 November 2007 (EST)

Thanks[edit]

Rpeh, thanks for reformatting my addition to the Falanu Hlaalu page. I joined recently and don't know very much about the wiki and its tools. -C Garrison 11:15 November 17 2007 PST

Thanks for being understanding! The info you added is worth being on the site but there's a vaguely-standard format for unique dialogue so I thought a bit of reformatting was in order. Believe me, we were all new once! You'll get the hang of it! --RpehTCE 15:04, 17 November 2007 (EST)

User 78.40.239.5 and Da Best[edit]

Discussion moved to UESPWiki:Administrator Noticeboard#User 78.40.239.5 and Da Best. Any decision about making a range block needs to be done on admin noticeboard. --NepheleTalk 12:00, 19 November 2007 (EST)

Doubt[edit]

Is User talk:88.207.25.3 a nonsense bot? I don't think it is actually. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:35, 21 November 2007 (EST)

Almost certainly not - it seems more likely to be a user playing around. I think the warning is fair enough but I'm not going to block that address unless it happens again. Some how I missed the original edit. Too busy wondering what was for lunch, probably! --RpehTCE 08:37, 21 November 2007 (EST)
I was about to undo it but Timenn had already done it with the comment that it is a nonsense bot. So I got a little confused because nonsense bots behave differently. Of course, no need to block it for that trifle. Anyway, have a nice lunch! --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:45, 21 November 2007 (EST)
I apologize for the incorrect statement that it was a nonsense bot. The edit seemed to have much in common with the nonsense that has been added by bots recently and I made the wrong assumption. --Timenn 08:49, 21 November 2007 (EST)
Never mind that. We all do such things at times. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:52, 21 November 2007 (EST)
Hey no need to apologize! You got the nonsense off, which is the important thing, and it did look like one at first glance. Nonsense bots always seem to put their nonsense at the top, though. And now I'm beginning to sound like some kind of Spotters' Guide to Vandals! --RpehTCE 08:54, 21 November 2007 (EST)
I guess that's one of the advantages of reverting vandalism. You do learn a lot about them, whether you want to or not! --Mankar CamoranTCE 09:00, 21 November 2007 (EST)

Vandal connection?[edit]

Do you think that vandals 194.3.120.241, and 195.19.204.69 might be connected in some way? C_Garrison 18:56, 21 November 2007 (EST)

Scratch that, forget I said anything. 194.3.120.241 is a nonsense bot, and 195.19.204.69 is a run-of-the-mill vandal.C_Garrison 18:59, 21 November 2007 (EST)

Just to Clarify...[edit]

Yup, you're the first person I turn to, Rpeh. Anyway, I just wanted to know if two links I put on my page are any good, and what your general opinion on them is. They're both under the "Elder Scrolls Links" section of my page. Have a look, but please post your reply on my talk page, as I will most likely forget to check back here. Thank you! (HMSVictory 05:27, 24 November 2007 (EST))

Second Time Through[edit]

Yes, the whole discussion on my talk page was becoming rather long-winded, so I've decided to say this; I personally think that a new award (That TheRealLurlock suggested) is way out of my spectrum. I think I'll just stick to funny Userboxes and external links. Besides, I'm too low down the ranks on the Active Users List to have any real effect. --HMSVictory 05:37, 25 November 2007 (EST)

There's no such thing as being "too low" on Active Users! Everybody started with 0 edits after all. If there's an award you want to do, feel free! --RpehTCE 05:43, 25 November 2007 (EST)
Well, I do have some ideas, but I doubt that any of them would be any good. And I don't know how to change the colours on a template, or edit the text or image, etc. It would be nice to have a TES related one, but I would need more help. Actually while we're on the subject of help, I was originally going to request that you become my mentor, but I think I'm past that stage now. --HMSVictory 05:51, 25 November 2007 (EST)
Yes I think you're well beyond that stage! I doubt it'll be long before you're on the mentors list yourself. --RpehTCE 07:14, 25 November 2007 (EST)
HEY. Stop right there. Do you seriously think that I am suitable to have any site ranking? I haven't been on this Wiki a month and you're already suggesting that! Come on, think realisticly. There are people who have been here for over a year and aren't administrators or mentors! It'll be a while yet before I achieve anything on this site. Slow down, Rpeh! --HMSVictory 07:39, 25 November 2007 (EST)
Yes I do think so. Some people are obviously suited to a site role and some, equally obviously, are not. Take a look at the patroller nomination page here. Eshe, for instance, was a user for just 9 days before being nominated and was voted in another 9 days after that. That was unusually quick, to be sure, but the point is that it's more about quality of service, not length. A rough rule of thumb is "Do I have to read every word of this editor's posts or is there a good enough track record to make me think I can just skim it?" You're getting close to that point now. Nobody's going to nominate you without asking, but I would imagine it won't be too much longer before somebody does ask! --RpehTCE 07:50, 25 November 2007 (EST)
Longevity brings experience, and personally I think it should be left to the experts (You, Nephele, TheRealLurlock, GuildKnight, etc) to manage the site. As for Eshe, 9 days was obviously enough time to realise that she had massive potential, something that I plainly do not have. I may be competent enough to responisbly edit the Wiki, but anyone who considers me for being a Patroller, Mentor or Administrator will be disappointed. I need several months more experience. Anyway, people like myself just aren't fit for the job. Having a sense of homour (which is abou the only good trait I have) is not a skill that one looks for in a senior editor. --HMSVictory 11:50, 25 November 2007 (EST)
I don't know why you think you don't have the potential, HMSVictory. I think you definitely have the potential. You can only get better with experience. --Mankar CamoranTCE 13:38, 25 November 2007 (EST)

(Outdent) If I had any real potential, I would have shown it already. It's as simple as that. --HMSVictory 14:20, 25 November 2007 (EST)

Advice[edit]

Sorry to double-post Rphe, but I need you advice on something. I have recently broken into the top 50 editors and am about to hit 300 edits. Before I go any further, could you give my some advice on improving my edits and/or personality on the site. Please respond on my talk page, as I will likely forget to check back here. Thanks! --HMSVictory 14:54, 30 November 2007 (EST)
