Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Duties[edit]

This is one of the first quests offered by Ranis Athrys in the Balmora Guild of Mages once you reach the rank of Journeyman. This and the quest Recruit or Kill Llarar Bereloth are offered at the same time, but are considered separate and will each raise your standing within the Guild.

Ranis will ask you to collect a debt from Manwe, who has failed to pay her dues for several years, and now owes over 2000 septims. Allegedly she is researching something in Punabi, near Llarar Bereloth in Sulipund. If you can convince Manwe to pay the dues, Ranis will split them with you. Otherwise, kill her.

Traveling to Punabi[edit]

Ranis tells you that Punabi is north of the Dunmer stronghold Marandus, and she marks Marandus on the map. This still leaves you with the decision on how to get to Marandus. The overland route doesn't really have a clear path due to mountains, which complicate travel. Without levitation, the trip can be difficult and is a far distance away. The other option is to take a Silt Strider to Suran, and then swim up the river that runs beside the town to Lake Nabia. Besides the occasional slaughterfish coming from the deep and the occasional cliff racer coming from above, there shouldn't be that much of a problem with creatures. Once you arrive at the lake, just get out on the shore and you'll be very close to Marandus. Now just follow Ranis' directions to get to Punabi.

Manwe[edit]

Once you get to Punabi, briefly follow the cave until you find Manwe. Use either Speechcraft or bribes to get her Disposition up to 60, and she will fork over 2000 gold, the required sum (half of which is kept as a reward). If you kill her, you do not get such a large monetary reward, as she has far less money on her corpse, and your disposition reward is only five, rather than fifteen. However, if you get her to give you the 2000 gold, THEN kill her, you can keep all 2000 gold for yourself (minus 10 disposition), as Ranis assumes Manwe did not give you the money. A final alternative is just to pay Ranis yourself, but you must travel to Punabi and speak to Manwe before you are given this option.

Notes[edit]

  • Although Ranis tells you that "Manwe has failed to pay her dues for several years, and she now owes us over 2000 septims", the first journal entry claims the period is just three months.
  • Journal entry 30, in which Manwe claims to have left the guild, can never be obtained.
  • After getting the dues from Manwe, asking about them again drops her disposition by 3.

Quest Stages[edit]

The following Journal ID and Index codes can be used with the Journal console command to manually update the quest to a certain point.

Manwe's Dues (MG_PayDues)
Index Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 Manwe, a Guild member in Punabi, has not paid any Guild dues in three months. Ranis asked me to find Manwe and collect the dues from her. To get to Punabi, I should go south from Balmora and take the road east past Fort Moonmoth. I should cross the bridge northeast of the Fort and continue east until I reach the lake. The old Dunmer stronghold of Marandas is just south of the lake. Punabi is on the trail that leads northeast from the lake.
30 Manwe says that she is no longer a member of the Mages Guild and refuses to pay the dues.
40 Manwe suggested that I pay the gold myself.
50 Manwe finally agreed to pay the 2000 gold she owes. I need to deliver this gold to Ranis Athrys in Balmora.
100 Finishes quest☑ I gave Manwe's Guild Dues to Ranis Athrys.
