Once you have accepted the job from Tinzen you can approach Bites-the-Branch in the library on the second floor. She will have little to say to you as it is beneath her to talk to assistants.

"Can I help you dry-skin? Or do you wish to ask me how I find the cold?"

The Coterie tasked me with assisting your research.

"I erect the spine of irritation. If I wanted to be bothered with questions about my research, I wouldn't have entrusted the Wood Elf to procure my bark. Did he not tell you to fetch me spriggan bark from the Shadowgreen?"

He did, but I wanted to ask you some questions.

"Assistants should not be seen or heard. They should provide what is asked of them and stay out of the way.
I have nothing more to share with you than my need for fresh spriggan bark from the Shadowgreen. Now go. Chop, chop!"

You'll get your bark.

Speaking to her again at this point, she'll say:

"I asked for spriggan bark, not thorns in my side. Go find what I need and take it to that useless Wood Elf if you expect to be paid.
Everyone here has brains as dry as their skin."
