Valsirenn is a High Elf member of the Psijic Order. You will first meet her while investigating the Monastery of Serene Harmony in Shimmerene.

As you progress in the main Summerset questline, it is revealed that Leythen is her husband, and that they had a daughter together, named Ealdaawe, who died of illness.

After completing the main story of Summerset, Valsirenn will become the new Ritemaster of the Psijic Order, and appears in-game as Ritemaster Valsirenn.

The Queen's Decree[edit]

Valsirenn undercover in civilian clothes

After finding the Abyssal Pearl in the Monastary, she'll catch you red-handed and say:

Valsirenn: "Unusual knick-knack for an Aldarch's office, wouldn't you agree?"

Speaking to her, she'll tell you:

"I noticed you skulking around while I was engaged in some skulking of my own. I suppose we both came to the monastery with a similar purpose in mind."
And what purpose would that be?
"The sequestered newcomers. I came to find out what happened to a friend. I assume that's what brought you here as well?"
"A house of worship shouldn't be used as an internment camp. And it shouldn't be locked to the public, either."
I saw a pearl like that. There were strange creatures nearby.
"Interesting. I've never seen anything quite like it. I find it intriguing and a bit disturbing."
"But we aren't here to discuss curios—strange creatures notwithstanding. We need to find out what's happening with the missing newcomers."
How did you happen to get past the sentry, by the way?
"The sentry doesn't appear to have stopped you, so I could ask you the same question. Let's just agree that we both have our methods."
"Curious, but I feel that there's more going on in Shimmerene than the usual politics and community relations."
What else could be going on here?
"That's the question, my cautious friend. We have a newly appointed Aldarch and a disgruntled Kinlady, both opposed to the Queen's decree. What's their connection to the missing newcomers?"
"I was about to explore the undercroft. Care to join me?"
I'll meet you in the undercroft.
Valsirenn in the Monastery of Serene Harmony

Valsirenn takes a closer look at the pearl before heading to the undercroft:

Valsirenn: "A curious pearl. I wonder where the Aldarch acquired it?"
Valsirenn: "Probably not important. I'll meet you in the undercroft and we can see what's going on with the newcomers."

While exploring the undercroft and discovering the cells, she'll say:

Valsirenn: "Something's wrong down here. I sense magic. Vile magic."
Valsirenn: "Cages? These people did nothing to deserve such treatment."
Valsirenn: "There's someone alive over there. See if you can help her."

After talking to the prisoner, you'll hear her exclaim:

Valsirenn: "Is that a … Skaafin?"

Once you've freed Minone Aloette, you can speak to her:

"A Daedra? Here? And that's a Skaafin, if I remember my Daedric recitations correctly. Very curious."
What's a dead Skaafin doing in a monastery devoted to the Eight?
"An excellent question, and one I hope to find the answer to. From the evidence before us, it appears this Nord killed the Skaafin before he succumbed to his own wounds. Good for him."
"I found this key on the creature's belt, so we can open that door."
That's where the prisoner said the monks took the rest of the newcomers.
"Then I suggest we pick up the pace. We need to determine what's actually happening down here and who's behind all this."
"Without answers to those questions, we won't be able to decide on our best course of action."
What about your missing friend?

Without replying, Valsirenn gets up and runs off further into the undercroft:

Valsirenn: "I'll explain everything later. For now, we need to hurry."
Valsirenn in the Monastery Undercroft

Once you've entered the Undercroft Great Hall, you'll hear her say:

Valsirenn: "Daedric cultists?"
Valsirenn: "I'll deal with the pearl, you hold off these creatures!"
Valsirenn: "The pearl's magic attracts these creatures. Hold them off while I complete my spell!"

After Valsirenn dispels the pearl, she runs further ahead:

Valsirenn: "Come on, let's talk outside."

In the Undercroft Labyrinth, she'll tell you:

"Those poor people. This wasn't just about newcomers and opposing the Queen's decree. That was Daedric magic back there! I just wish we had arrived a few moments earlier."
What happened to the pearl? Did you destroy it?
"I promised to explain what I know. I suppose that now's as good a time as any."
"I'm a member of the Psijic Order. Our Ritemaster sent me to investigate a warning we received about a plot involving Summerset. My inquiries led me here."
The Psijic Order?
"The Psijic Order is an ancient magical monastic society. We served as advisors to the rulers of Tamriel, but that was before we removed our island home from the world. Now this threat has drawn us back."
"But why are you involved in all this?"
I'm working with Razum-dar, one of the Queen's Eyes. But what happened to the pearl?
"An Eye of the Queen? Interesting."
"I diffused the Daedric magic and transported the pearl to Artaeum, the Psijic island, for safekeeping and study so we can learn more about it. But we can discuss this further once we get out of here."
All right. Let's go.

After you have exited the monastery's undercroft:

Valsirenn: "Living on Artaeum for a few centuries doesn't prepare you for physical activity."
Valsirenn: "Let the Eye of the Queen know what we discovered and I'll catch up with you later."

Talking to Valsirenn:

"We were warned that Daedric Princes had their eyes on Summerset, but I didn't expect that level of danger from what was supposed to be a simple investigation.
I suggest you tell the Eye of the Queen what we discovered. I'll catch up with you later."
How did you get involved in this? I thought you said Artaeum was sent away.
"We received word that there was the potential for trouble in Summerset, so the Ritemaster sent me to take a look.
Even so, Artaeum isn't a prison. We're Psijic mages! We can come and go as we like, just so long as it advances our studies."
Why didn't you tell me you were a member of the Psijic Order?
"I did tell you, once I ascertained I could trust you and the time was right.
When we make a rare visit back to Nirn, we try to keep a low profile. Rumors about our Order tend to make people uncomfortable and even nervous in our presence."
And what about that missing friend that you mentioned?
"A partial truth. Easier to remember than an outright lie.
Another member of our Order came to Summerset a few months back. We haven't heard from him, so I decided to look into both matters while I was here. Unfortunately, he continues to elude me."
You think he's hiding from you?
"No, not intentionally. We may be sages, but we're still just people. We can become restless, succumb to sorrow or frustration.
My friend may have decided that life on Artaeum was no longer satisfying. I just want to know he's safe."

After leaving Kinlady Avinisse's party and finishing your conversation with Raz, Valsirenn will talk to the both of you.

Valsirenn: "I'm glad I found you. While watching the Kinlady's mansion, I saw her ladyship sneak out the back and leave the city."
Raz: "The Kinlady is meeting the Aldarch in the Coral Forest. Raz smells something and it isn't moon-sugar biscuits!"
Valsirenn: "Your reputation precedes you, Eye of the Queen. I am Valsirenn of the Psijic Order. And I agree that the Aldarch is more than a simple monk."
Raz: "We should work together, yes? But let's travel separately to avoid attracting unwanted attention. Raz will find you both at the Coral Forest."

Valsirenn disappears with a poof; Raz simply walks away. Go to the Coral Forest and team up again with Valsirenn to confront the Aldarch.

"One of Summerset's more unique environments, the Coral Forest. I used to love coming here when I was growing up."
"We need to find out why the Aldarch asked Kinlady Avinisse to meet him out here."
How do we find the Aldarch and the Kinlady?
"Based on what we saw in the monastery's undercroft, I'm hesitant to use magic to locate them."
"I suppose we'll have to find them through mundane means. Too bad the Queen's spy isn't here yet. I understand he's good at this sort of thing."

If you manage to speak to her immediately before she becomes non-interactable:

"You take the lead. My combat spells are extremely limited. Just stay alert. We don't know what the Aldarch and the Kinlady are doing out here."

Approaching Aldarch Tilcalar's and Kinlady Avinisse's location, you'll hear the following:

Kinlady Avinisse: "Murder? That wasn't part of the plan, Aldarch!"
Aldarch Tilcalar: "You know nothing of the plan, you fool. Let me give you a taste of what the Prince of Bargains has in store for this pitiful world."
Kinlady Avinisse: "Your Prince? I want no part of Daedra! Help!"
Valsirenn: "The Aldarch! We'd better hurry!"

Speaking with her before fighting the Aldarch:

"Something is amiss in Summerset, but I can't quite put my finger on the cause.
No matter. I'm sure my investigations will turn up something. I just need to be patient."

She runs off as you initiate combat with the Aldarch:

Valsirenn: "I'll go after the Kinlady! You deal with the Aldarch!"

Defeat Aldarch Tilcalar then speak to her again:

"Razum-dar apprehended the Kinlady. They're at the west edge of the Coral Forest."
"What happened to Aldarch Tilcalar? Did he escape?"
Aldarch Tilcalar is dead. I heard him mention the Prince of Bargains.
"I think we can conclude that Tilcalar wasn't actually an Aldarch. At least, not with his connection to the Prince of Bargains, Clavicus Vile."
"Strange magic and creatures worry me, however. Hopefully, the pearl I sent to Artaeum can tell us more."
You think you can learn something from the pearl?
"You'd be surprised what a particular object can reveal—if you know how to unlock its secrets. "
"I need to return and tell Ritemaster Iachesis all that transpired here. If you're willing, I'd like you to come to Artaeum and confirm my story."
Who's Ritemaster Iachesis?
"The Ritemaster leads the Psijic Order from Ceporah Tower, on the island of Artaeum. This spell attunes you to a portal near Shimmerene, in the ruins of the Keep of Eleven Forces. It always leads to Artaeum, no matter the island's current location."
I'll go to Artaeum to talk to the Ritemaster after I check in with Razum-dar.

Valsirenn then attunes you with the spell required to access Artaeum, then teleports away:

Valsirenn: "One more adjustment and … there! You are now attuned!"
Valsirenn: "Find me on Artaeum after you finish with the Eye of the Queen."

Upon arriving at Ceporah Tower, Valsirenn is there, reporting to the Ritemaster:

Valsirenn: "And there was no sign of Leythen. I don't know whether to be grateful or concerned."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "We'll find him, Val. Now go check on the pearl while I speak to our new guest."

A Pearl of Great Price[edit]

Valsirenn helps the ritemaster with the augury ritual on the pearl at Ceporah Tower. Speaking to her after the ritual's completion:

"I suppose I'll be off to Rellenthil. You, too, I imagine.
In the meantime, I believe the Ritemaster wishes to speak to you."

Speaking with her before leaving the tower:

"I'll make my own way to Rellenthil and meet you there. I expect we should start by seeing if the town's Canonreeve has noticed anything unusual in the area."
Why is the Ritemaster sending you to Rellenthil?
"I volunteed for this mission, and Rellenthil is the next obvious location to investigate.
We really ought to head out now."
You mentioned someone named Leythen when you were talking to the Ritemaster earlier.
"Leythen ... Leythen is a member of our order. He's a learned sage who disappeared while on a mission of his own back in Nirn. He was looking into an earlier warning we received about the Daedric Princes.
We haven't heard from him in a long time."
Do you think something happened to him?
"Leythen isn't a stranger to difficult situations. It's just that it isn't like him not to send word. He could have been captured or injured. Or ....
Probably he's just been busy. I expect we'll hear from him any time now."
Does the Ritemaster ever leave Artaeum?
"We're not prisoners here. We can move about as our research and investigations require.
The Ritemaster has so many experiments going on at any given time, however, that he tends to stick close to the island."
How long have you known the Ritemaster?
"We're been friends and colleagues for a very long time. Iachesis has been the Ritemaster since before I was accepted into the order. In fact, he's the primary reason I'm here. He saw potential in a young Altmer and invited her to join."

If you talk to Valsirenn before speaking with Canonreeve Farmeldo, she'll tell you:

"I'll let you handle the Canonreeve. I'm a bit out of practice in dealing with the niceties of Summerset society. I wouldn't want to inadvertently cause insult."

If you speak to Valsirenn before entering the Rellenthil Sinkhole, she'll say:

"The Canonreeve's son certainly seems agitated about something. I wonder where he ran off to in such a state?
Well, I suppose we should go and take a look at this sinkhole the Canonreeve mentioned."
Why do you think the Canonreeve's son Nedoril and his friends gather at the sinkhole?
"That's a rather dangerous and unsavory location for a gathering of young Altmer.
The Canonreeve referred to them as malcontents who were proud of their heritage. Makes me curious to see what we'll find when we get there."
Do you think the sinkhole might be connected to the Daedric plot?
"I'd rather not speculate. We'll see for ourselves soon enough.
I just hope the Canonreeve's son hasn't gotten involved with anything too terrible. Children. They can be as frustrating as they are loving."
Do you have any children?
"I... I had a daughter. She fell ill. Even the best minds of the Conclave couldn't cure her malady. She... she's no longer with us.
Enough of that. Let's go see what this sinkhole has to show us."

If you don't go to the sinkhole immediately, Valsirenn will tell you:

Valsirenn: "I'll meet you in the sinkhole."

After Pennifen makes her abrupt exit of the sinkhole, Valsirenn will comment:

"That young woman was certainly in a hurry. And what was that about Nedoril and an attack?"
She said that Nedoril attacked someone, and something about creatures.
"Yes, well, let's be on our guard then. I don't think this sinkhole is completely natural. Its size concerns me. If the ground continues to fall away, it could swallow all of Rellenthil."
Do you really think this sinkhole is that dangerous?
"It certainly feels dangerous. And if it does figure into the Court of Bedlam's plans, well, I can't think of a more frightening event than watching Rellenthil get swallowed by a sinkhole.
Let's proceed and find out what's going on down here."

After crossing the first chamber, Valsirenn stops following you in order to stabilize the crumbling caverns:

Valsirenn: "The walls and ceiling. They don't look stable. I'll try to reinforce the weak spots and catch up with you."
Valsirenn: "More of those yaghra creatures! Be careful."
Valsirenn: "The size of this place! It's almost as if someone dug up through the island."
Valsirenn: "I'll teleport closer to the central area and meet you there."

After your encounter with Eldhon, Valsirenn teleports in and calls out to you:

Valsirenn: "Over here! Keep quiet and tell me if you see what I see."

You'll find Valsirenn at an overlook where an odd scene plays on an opposite ledge, one on which she'll comment:

"You see that, right? My eyes aren't playing tricks on me? That's a Sea Sload! They haven't been seen in Summerset since ... well, it's been centuries, at least!"
What's a Sea Sload?
"A vile and dangerous species. Very powerful. The Sea Sload come from the distant underwater kingdom of Ul'vor-Kus.
Who's that hooded figure with the Sload? And look. More of those abyssal pearls. They're everywhere!"
Why are the Sea Sload dangerous?
"The Sload are a godless people, perhaps the most hated in Tamriel. And the Sea Sload are even worse! They employ depraved magic and have long coveted Summerset. They believe it once belonged to them.
They pillage, release plagues. They're horrible!"
Does this have something to do with the Court of Bedlam?
"The hooded figure could be a member of this so-called Court of Bedlam. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
That Sload has me worried, though. I can't think of anything worse than an alliance between those foul beasts and Daedric cultists."
Could this be the source of the abyssal pearls?
"They could certainly have a connection to the Sea Sload's submerged kingdom, but they appear to have been placed down here. Look how the yaghra are drawn to them.
I'll head for the Sea Sload. You deal with those abyssal pearls!"

Once you agree to destroy the abyssal pearls, the following scene will play out:

Nedoril: "Master, intruders in the cave!"
K'Tora: "Heed me, my creatures! Destroy the intruders!"
Valsirenn: "That young idiot! We need to get over there!"
K'Tora: "Witness the power of K'Tora of the Abyssal Cabal!"

Upon reaching further ahead in the caverns, joining with Valsirenn again:

Valsirenn: "Destroy the pearls! We can't let those creatures reach the surface."
Valsirenn: "The Sea Sload and the hooded figure are gone. I'll try to determine where they disappeared to."

After destroying all the abyssal pearls, Valsirenn will call for you to follow her:

Valsirenn: "This way. Up here!"
Valsirenn: "Damn! No sign of where the Sea Sload disappeared to."

Speaking to Valsirenn will convey:

"Damn it, I wasn't fast enough!"
So that's it? The Sea Sload escaped?
"For the time being. Let's see what's through that opening."

Upon entering the final area of the cave, Valsirenn will remark on the final fight:

Valsirenn: "The Sea Sload left us something to remember it by. We need to dispatch that creature."

After exiting the sinkhole and joining with Razum-dar, Valsirenn will make her leave:

Valsirenn: "Sea Sloads! This is worse than the Ritemaster imagined!"
Valsirenn: "Meet me in Artaeum after you talk to the Queen's Eye."

Buried Memories[edit]

A scene plays out as you meet the Ritemaster down at the scrying pool:

Iradal: "See what the scrying pool reveals! There's something happening on the beach!"
Valsirenn: "It's the yaghra, they're invading Artaeum!"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "The pearl! Somehow it was used to summon the yaghra! We need to defend the beach!"
Valsirenn: "Wait! Is that a sword?"
Golden Knight: "That would be mine. I'm on my way to help. Eventually.
Ritemaster Iachesis: "The Golden Knight and his sword can wait. The yaghra are our primary concern."

Valsirenn and Iradal comment on the visions after the Ritemaster departs:

Valsirenn: "Follow the Ritemaster. I'll portal myself and meet you there."
Iradal: "My word, the vision showed us the Dawnbreaker! I'm almost positive."'

Upon reaching the College of Psijics Ruins:

Valsirenn: "Let me accompany you."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "You need to rally the others. Your friend and I should be able to handle this."

Speaking to her after this:

"It seems the Ritemaster prefers your company in this matter to mine.
Be careful in there. If the yaghra made it onto Artaeum, I can't imagine that one or more of the Sea Sload will be very far behind."
These ruins, what is this place?
"This? This was once the famed College of Psijics. It dates back to a time when our order was much larger and we were more involved in the affairs of the world.
Now the ruins serve as a repository, a vault to store dangerous items."
What was the Golden Knight that appeared in the scrying pool vision?
"Iradal believes that the sword was Dawnbreaker, which would make the Golden Knight a champion of Meridia. But let's deal with one problem at a time.
It may not seem like it, but this situation has rattled Iachesis. Please, keep him safe in there."

Valsirenn arrives in the Psijic Relic Vaults and calls out to you from outside the doors following the confrontation between the Ritemaster and K'Tora:

Valsirenn: "Out here, quickly! We need to hurry if we're going to help the Ritemaster!"

Speaking to her outside the rotunda:

"It's a good thing I followed you after I alerted the rest of the Conclave.
I think I can counteract K'Tora's mind magic, but I'll need your help."
What's happening to the Ritemaster?
"K'Tora is using the power of the Orbs of B'Raken Drel to enhance his mind magic and lock the Ritemaster in a mental grip.
From what I can discern, the Sea Sload is flipping through his memories as you or I would turn the pages of a book."
What are the Orbs of B'Raken Drel?
"An ancient implement, three matched orbs that our relic master believes originated in the Sea of Pearls. We long suspected they were connected to the Sea Sload.
K'Tora thinks the power of the relic will keep us from interfering, but I have an idea."
So what do you need me to do?
"Take this wardkey. It will disable the protections on the repositories so you can locate the Ul'vor Staff and bring it to me. I can use the staff to breach the barrier and aid the Ritemaster.
Just watch out for any lingering yaghra."
I'll find the Ul'Vor Staff.
Valsirenn wielding the Ul'Vor Staff

After finding and bringing her the Ul'Vor Staff:

"We're running out of time. Whatever the Sea Sload searches for in the Ritemaster's mind, I believe it is close to finding it.
Have you brought me the Ul'Vor Staff?"
I found the Ul'Vor Staff.
"Excellent. And it appears to be in perfect condition. With the staff, I'm certain I can pierce the barrier and open a path to the mindscape where the Ritemaster struggles against K'Tora."
So we're going to enter the Ritemaster's mind?
"Not we. You. I need to remain here to anchor you to the physical world. And you're going into K'Tora's mind. We'll use the connection between them to put you where you can actually hurt the Sea Sload—within its own mindscape."
How can I hurt K'Tora in the mindscape?
"K'Tora's mindscape is the perfect place to hurt the Sea Sload. It's where he's most vulnerable. In a place where thoughts become reality, you'll be able to stop K'Tora once and for all.
Now touch the staff and go save the Ritemaster!"
I'll enter the mindscape.

She then plants the staff into the ground:

Valsirenn: "Touch the Ul'vor Staff and enter the mindscape!"

Valsirenn will instruct you once you've entered the mindscape:

Valsirenn: "Vanquish the guardians to reveal each protected memory. You'll weaken K'Tora and learn something at the same time."

Shortly after viewing the second memory:

Valsirenn: "The Ritemaster's waking up. You need to press on!"

After defeating K'Tora:

Valsirenn: "K'Tora's mind. It's shutting down!"
Valsirenn: "I'm taking the Ritemaster back to his study! You need to get out of here!"
Valsirenn: "Use the staff to exit the mindscape! Then talk to Sotha Sil!"

When you return to Ceporah Tower, Ritemaster Iachesis will be finishing a conversation with Valsirenn and Oriandra.

Valsirenn: "As you wish, Ritemaster. I shall travel to Lillandril immediately."
Oriandra: "And I'll send word to the Eye of the Queen."

The Tower Sentinels[edit]

Her greeting when accepting the quest from her:

"Ah, there you are! Glad to see a few of our standard spells of finding still behave in expected ways.
I could use your assistance if you have the time to spare."
How can I help?
"The Ritemaster sent me to warn the Sapiarchs of the danger to the Crystal Tower. I want to get to Lillandril as soon as possible so I can scout the area and look for signs of the Court of Bedlam.
I need you to go to the Royal Palace in Alinor."
What do you want me to do at the Royal Palace?
"I don't have time to curry favor with Proxy Queen Alwinarwe. I need you to talk to the Proxy Queen and secure her permission to enter the College of Sapiarchs. The Ritemaster has already requested an audience, so the Palace will be expecting you."
I'll leave for Alinor at once.

After accepting the quest, either in Alinor or on Artaeum:

"The Ritemaster continues to seek the memories that were forgotten or altered by the Sea Sload's mind magic. I still find it hard to believe that they actually compelled him to steal the Heart of Transparent Law.
We need to warn the Sapiarchs."
How is the Ritemaster doing?
"He's frustrated by the situation. He hates that the Sea Sload got the better of him, and that he can't remember.
The Conclave is working with him to restore his memories while we go to warn the Sapiarchs about the threat to the Crystal Tower."
Tell me more about the Sapiarchs.
"The Sapiarchs are the sages of Summerset. A college comprised of the finest minds in Altmer society. Each Sapiarch is devoted to a single area of expertise. Together, they maintain the greatest collection of knowledge in the world."
What do the Sapiarchs have to do with the Crystal Tower?
"The Sapiarchs serve as the curators of the Crystal Tower. A pair of Sapiarchs called the Tower Sentinels protect the two keys needed to open the way to the tower. We'll need their help eventually.
First, though, the Proxy Queen."
Why is the Crystal Tower so important?
"The Crystal Tower is a manifestation of ancient magic. It serves as a symbol for the Altmer. Its presence protects Summerset. The Sea Sload used the Ritemaster to weaken that protection, making their invasion possible.
Beyond that, there are rumors."
What kind of rumors?
"The kind that make the Ritemaster wary of allowing either the Sea Sload or the Daedric Princes to possess its power.
Legends say the Crystal Tower exists in every planar realm at the same time. It literally connects all realities."
So the Sea Sload have been controlling the Ritemaster all these years?
"No, I doubt K'Tora's magic could reach Artaeum once it was removed from the world. I think that's why the Ritemaster hid the island in the first place.
If not for the abyssal pearl, K'Tora would never have been able to exert its influence again."
If you needed help on this, why not bring Oriandra?
"While I head to Lillandril and you secure the Proxy Queen's permission, the Ritemaster had another task for Oriandra. He asked her to seek out the Eye of the Queen, Razum-dar.
He wants to make sure the Eye is kept informed bout the situation."
And who is the Proxy Queen?
"Queen Ayrenn's regent while she's away. Proxy Queen Alwinarwe oversees the governance of Summerset from the Royal Palace in Alinor.
I've never met her, but all reports indicate that she's fair if a bit set in her ways."

Make your way to Lillandril and Valsirenn will be waiting:

"I've checked over Lillandril from top to bottom and there's no sign of the Court of Bedlam. I can't get the portal master to let me go to the College compound, though.
Have you brought permission from the Proxy Queen?"
The Proxy Queen promised she'd send word to grant us access to the College of Sapiarchs.
"Good, good. I was about to turn that insignificant book duster into something small, wet, and slimy. It would have made matters worse, but it might have brightened the dark mood I've been in.
Sorry. I don't mean to burden you with my troubles."
Is there something I can help you with?
"No. The mission is more important than personal matters. I'm sure Leythen will turn up. Eventually.
In the meantime, you should talk to the portal master and see if she's ready to grant us access to the College."
Tell me about Leythen.
"Leythen and I met when we were initiates of the Psijic Order. We fell in love and married. Had a daughter. We had all the things we ever wanted. And then everything changed.
After we lost our daughter, Leythen grew distant. More subdued."
You lost your daughter?
"It happened ages ago. After a long illness. We lived on an island filled with the most accomplished sages of our age, and there was nothing that could be done. We tried. I tried. But the illness took her in the end.
Leythen was never the same."
So Leythen left Artaeum?
"No, it wasn't like that. When the Ritemaster first learned of the possible Daedric threat, Leythen volunteered to look into it. We both thought it would be good for Leythen to get away, give him something to occupy his time.
Then he disappeared."
Disappeared?
"Leythen's reports became less frequent. Then he stopped sending them altogether. I'd know if he was dead, but he could be a prisoner. Or hurt ….
My main concern right now is the threat posed by the Daedric Princes. Leythen … will have to wait."

Once at the college grounds, a short scene plays out:

Portal Master Astirhil: "By the Seven Sacred Texts! Who has dared invade this place of learning?"
Valsirenn: "I've got this. You talk to that Sapiarch."
Sapiarch Ellimil: "This is unheard of! Attacked in our own sanctuary!"

Finish speaking to Sapiarch Ellimil and everyone will go in different directions:

Valsirenn: "According to the maps I studied, the Labyrinth is this way."
Portal Master Astirhil: "I'll return to Lillandril and warn the guards."
Sapiarch Ellimil: "Good idea. Perhaps I should accompany you."

Follow Valsirenn to the College of Sapiarchs' Labyrinth:

"There's more to this than a simple Daedric incursion. I felt a strange sensation when we arrived. A sense of urgency.
We need to hurry and find the trapped Sapiarchs."
Do you often get sensations like this?
"Sometimes. Probably has something to do with living on a displaced island and being part of the Psijic Order.
We knew the three Daedric Princes were a threat, but this is our first clear evidence of their hostile intent."
Do you think the Sapiarchs are still alive?
"Even scholars have ways to defend themselves. Which reminds me, I can protect myself but I'm not much good in a raging battle. I'll try to stay behind you and keep out of the way.
Now, let's hurry and go save the Sapiarchs!"

As you make your way through the corridors, she'll remark:

Valsirenn: "By the stars, this place is enormous!"
Valsirenn: "I'd like to explore this compound one day. When fewer Daedra are about, of course."

Reach the doorway to the remainder of the complex:

Valsirenn: "We should be able to reach the upper levels through there."

Near the Sapiarch of Arcanology's Study and she'll get her bearings:

Valsirenn: "I sense … this way!"

Inside the study, she'll say:

Valsirenn: "I hear voices up ahead."

Follow her and you'll discover Leythen interogating a group of Sapiarchs:

Earl Leythen: "No more sages need to die today, Sapiarch. Just give me the diamond keys."
Sapiarch Larnatille: "The Resolute Diamonds are not mine to give. Especially not to a Daedric cultist."
Valsirenn: "Leythen, stop!"
Earl Leythen: "Valsirenn! No, damn you!"

Valsirenn will imprison Leythen in magical chains.

"I can't believe I was concerned about the welfare of my husband! To find Leythen here, threatening the Sapiarchs and leading a horde of Daedra … how could he betray the Order like that? How could he betray me?"
What did you do to Leythen?
"A simple spell of binding. His attention was so focused on the Sapiarchs, he wasn't prepared to deal with another Psijic mage.
While you go and find the tower sentinels at the Illumination Academy, I'll take Leythen back to Artaeum."
You won't have any trouble getting him back to the Psijic Order?
"I almost hope he gives me a little trouble. I could use a reason to unleash some pain and suffering on this … this turncoat!
Don't worry. My spell will hold until we reach the confines of Ceporah Tower."

Speaking to her before leaving the building:

"Don't worry about me. I have my husband well in hand.
Find the tower sentinels and we'll meet back in Artaeum. By then the Ritemaster will have a plan in place on how to restore the Crystal Tower."

Later inside Coral-Splitter Caves, Valsirenn will send her projection to find you:

Valsirenn: "Ah, there you are. The Ritemaster needs you back in Artaeum immediately."
Valsirenn: "Find him in Ceporah Tower as soon as you can."

The Dreaming Cave[edit]

At the behest of Ritemaster Iachesis you'll go to speak to Leythen. Look for him at the west side of the island and you'll find him and Valsirenn in the middle of a discussion:

Earl Leythen: "I never planned to come back here. The memories are … painful."
Valsirenn: "I still can't believe I had to find you and drag you back. Was our time together really so terrible?"
Earl Leythen: "You still don't understand. Our daughter will never again see this view. Or hold my hand. Or … or … anything."

If you speak to her before speaking to Leythen, she'll say:

"What a fool I've been! I was worried sick about Leythen while he was out cavorting with worshipers of Mephala.
I lost our daughter, too, but you don't see me abandoning my friends and family. I didn't forsake the Psijic Order!"
Shouldn't Leythen be locked away somewhere?
"We're Psijic monks. We don't have anything as barbaric as a dungeon or a jail. Instead, we adjusted his attunement spell to make it impossible for him to leave Artaeum.
Leythen is free to wander the island, as befits a friend of the Ritemaster."
The Ritemaster and Leythen are friends?
"My husband was well-liked and respected. He and the Ritemaster often talked and conducted research.
Iachesis is probably as devastated by Leythen's betrayal as I am. But he isn't vindictive. As long as Leythen behaves, he's free to roam the island."
The Ritemaster wants me to talk to Leythen.
"Good luck with that. Maybe you'll get something useful out of him, but I doubt it.
Leythen was stubborn before he became an earl in the Court of Bedlam. Now he's stubborn and insufferable!"

Speak to Leythen and discover his supposition that all Meridia's worshipers on Summerset have been eliminated. When you suggest going and seeing for yourself, Valsirenn will have her own suggestion:

Valsirenn: "That sounds like a wild nixad chase. Didn't Razum-dar mention he was investigating Daedric cults on Summerset? Maybe you should go talk to him."
"Razum-dar has been investigating Daedric activity across Summerset. He's your best chance for finding a follower of Meridia, despite what Leythen has intimated."
Do you know where Razum-dar is?
"When last we checked, the Eye of the Queen was in Shimmerene, conducting his own investigation into the Court of Bedlam and other Daedric activity.
If anyone in Summerset can point you to a priest of Meridia, it's Razum-dar."

Return from Summerset and you'll find the Ritemaster and Valsirenn trying to scry:

Ritemaster Iachesis: "I see signs of the Court's work throughout Summerset, but nothing of the Court itself."
Valsirenn: "I think the Court of Bedlam has fewer members than we imagined."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "Enough of this for now. Let's see what our friend has learned."

Speak to her before speaking to the Ritemaster:

"I hope your trip was successful. We could use some good news right about now."

After speaking to Iachesis and agreeing to go into Mephala's realm, Valsirenn will agree to accompany you:

Valsirenn: "Mephala's realm can be daunting, but I'll be with you the entire time."

Inside the Spiral Skein, you'll quickly discover that the two of you have become separated:

Valsirenn: "Are you there? I think we were separated."

Upon reaching the large open area:

Valsirenn: "There you are! I'm up here!"
Valsirenn: "Try to find a way up while I take a look around."

Back in the web tunnels:

Valsirenn: "It's like a maze in here, full of dead ends and passages that lead nowhere."
Valsirenn: "Try to use the Dawnstar gem. Maybe it'll reveal a path we're not seeing."

After using the revealed path:

Valsirenn: "I think there's something stalking me in here. Oh no!"

After freeing Valsirenn from her cocoon:

Valsirenn: "Thank the stars, I can breathe again!"

Speaking to her afterward:

"I couldn't breathe! As usual, you found me just in the nick of time.
The beast that captured me. I've never seen anything like it!"
Are you all right?
"A little light headed, but I'll be fine. Now that we're together, we can focus on finding the Golden Knight. And if that beast shows its mandibles again, I'll be ready."
What kind of beast attacked you?
"Something with the body of a giant spider and … well, I'm not sure how to describe it. But it was a creature right out of my nightmares. Just what you'd expect in the realm of a Daedric Prince.
No matter. Let's go find the Golden Knight."

Speaking to her again, now as your follower, and she'll say:

"We just need to push on and find the Golden Knight. The faster we can get out of here, the better.
If I never see a giant spider again, it will be too soon."

Use the Dawnstar Gem to open a portal:

Valsirenn: "That's the path revealed by the Dawnstar gem? What I wouldn't give to be able to use portal magic in here!"

Exit the portal on the other side, and she'll say:

Valsirenn: "That wasn't a pleasant experience."
Valsirenn exploring Mephala's realm

Make your way through Mephala's realm and Valsirenn will keep you on track:

Valsirenn: "That light in the distance. It's brighter, out of place in this dismal setting. That must be the Golden Knight!"

Upon reaching the entrance of the large structure where the light is coming from:

Valsirenn: "Mephala won't leave something as valuable as Meridia's Golden Knight unprotected."

Speaking to her before freeing Darien Gautier:

"The Golden Knight! We need to get him down from there!"

Reach the Golden Knight and discover his true identity. Valsirenn will quickly pick up on his… charming personality:

Darien Gautier: "Took you long enough. I expected this rescue hours ago."
Valsirenn: "Your gratitude has a hollow ring, knight."
Darien Gautier: "Oh, I can be very grateful, my lady."
Valsirenn: "Maybe we should just leave him. I'm sure the Ritemaster would understand."

Speaking to her before speaking to the freed Darien:

"This is Meridia's champion? He's not as a impressive as I imagined."

After speaking to Darien, she'll lead the two of you to the next area:

Valsirenn: "Let's get out of here. Meet me outside."

Reach her and she'll have started casting a portal spell:

"I can open a portal to the Dreaming Cave, but the ritual will take time and will more than likely draw Mephala's Daedra.
You need to hold them off until I can find the way back home."
I'll keep the Daedra busy until you complete the ritual.
"I won't be able to assist you while I'm casting, and the Golden Knight doesn't appear to be in any condition to fight.
I'm afraid you're on your own, my friend."

Valsirenn will start to cast her spell as Mephala's minions attack:

Valsirenn: "Let my voice penetrate the barriers between here and the Dreaming Cave!"

After the first wave is defeated:

Valsirenn: "Keep them back a few moments longer!"

During the final wave, where Brevorra Poisonclaw arrives:

Valsirenn: "I can sense the portal opening. Just—by the stars! That spider thing!"

After repelling all the Daedra, Valsirenn will have completed the portal:

Valsirenn: "The portal has opened! Let's get out of here!"

Lost in Translation[edit]

If you obtain the quest through Valsirenn, the initial dialogue goes as follows:

"The Ritemaster sent me to find you. He said he's recovered another memory."
The Ritemaster remembered something else?
"You need to speak to Iachesis about this. All he said to me was that he remembers a whisper, a woman speaking the same words over and over. He thinks it has something to do with the barrier and where he hid the Heart of Transparent Law."
He doesn't know what the words mean?
"No. He thinks the language is ancient and he feels we need to determine what the memory means before we attempt to breach the barrier.
The Ritemaster is waiting for you in the Dreaming Cave. Go and talk to him as soon as you can."
I'll go speak to the Ritemaster. (Begins the quest)
"You can find the Ritemaster in the Dreaming Cave. In the meantime, I want to see how the Golden Knight's recovery is progressing. And I should probably look in on Leythen—provided I can resist the urge to kill him, that is."
Remind me about the significance of the Heart of Transparent Law.
"The Heart is a crucial piece of the gem at the top of the Crystal Tower. The Ritemaster was compelled to take the Heart and hide it away while under the influence of the Sea Sload, K'Tora.
I just hope the Golden Knight can breach the barrier."
You mentioned a barrier.
"The path through the Dreaming Cave that the Ritemaster believes leads to where he hid the Heart is blocked by a barrier of some sort. He thinks it might be Daedric in origin, which is why we rescued the Golden Knight."
Has the Golden Knight recovered from the wounds he sustained in Mephala's realm?
"Not completely, but he's making excellent progress. The Golden Knight, Darien Gautier, clearly enjoys the blessings of Meridia. He has a remarkable constitution and his body heals at an amazing rate.
You really should go see the Ritemaster now."
Tell me about Leythen.
"We really don't have time to talk about my traitorous husband. He betrayed the Psijic Order and became an earl in the Court of Bedlam—a devotee of Mephala, the Daedric Prince!
We captured him in Lillandril and now he's a prisoner on Artaeum."

After Oriandra sends you to question Leythen about the unknown language, you'll find him and Valsirenn in her study:

Earl Leythen: "Interesting. You weren't this attentive when our daughter actually needed you."
Valsirenn: "Leythen, I—arrgh! I need to go check on the knight anyway."
Earl Leythen: "Val, wait …. Damn it."

Valsirenn leaves the room without another word.

Later, while looking to speak to Darien, you'll find both of them outside where the elf is marveling at the Breton's miraculous recovery:

Valsirenn: "Your wounds, they're just … gone!"
Darien Gautier: "I've always healed fast, Val. I can call you Val, right?"
Darien Gautier: "Give me a moment. I'd like to chat with our friend."
Valsirenn: "Of course. Then go to the Dreaming Cave. The Ritemaster's ready to begin."

Valsirenn will head to the Dreaming Cave.

Speak to her in the Dreaming Cave and she'll say:

"The Ritemaster plans to lead this expedition personally. I'm glad to have him along, but I'm concerned whenever he puts himself at risk."

Enter the portal and on the other side you'll see the Ritemaster in some distress:

Ritemaster Iachesis: "I'll be all right, Valsirenn. Manipulating the Dreaming Cave always exhausts me."
Valsirenn: "We'll take it slow. Let the others clear the path for us."

Speaking to her before speaking to the Ritemaster:

"It took considerable effort for the Ritemaster to open this pathway through the Dreaming Cave.
I'll help him along while you and Darien clear the path ahead."

Speaking to her after talking to the Ritemaster, she'll add:

"Go on ahead. I'll make sure we're not far behind."

Speaking to her after encountering the Blackfeather Crow, she'll say:

"I'm worried about Iachesis. He's still as weary as the moment when we first entered this damned realm."

After speaking to the Ritemaster:

"I've never seen the Ritemaster like this. He's so … diminished. It's this realm. It's doing something to him."

Encountering a Blackfeather Crow again, the following exchange will play:

Blackfeather Crow: "The featherless one couldn't resist the Sea Sload, not on his own."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "What nonsense is this?"
Blackfeather Crow: "He doesn't remember! So desperate he was, he leaped at our Mistress's offer!"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "Speak plainly, crows! Come back here!"
Valsirenn: "Iachesis, calm down. Their words mean nothing."
Darien Gautier: "This is getting stranger and stranger."

Speaking to her after the exchange:

"The crows … they implied that the Ritemaster accepted an offer from Nocturnal. Could such a thing be true?"

Speaking to her after talking to the Ritemaster:

"We need to keep going. I don't like where everything is leading, but we need to see this through."

Upon reaching the portal:

Ritemaster Iachesis: "I remember this."
Valsirenn: "Iachesis, what are you saying?"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "I'm saying I remember taking the Heart through that portal."

Speaking to her before talking to the Ritemaster:

"Talk to the Ritemaster. Find out if he knows what we should do next."

After speaking to him:

"I don't like any of this. Lost memories, deals with Daedric Princes … nothing about this feels right.
And Iachesis. I've never seen him like this before. I actually think he might be … afraid."

Speaking to her at Nocturnal's shrine at the top of the mountain:

"I just want to find the Heart and get out of this dreadful realm."

The Ritemaster will invoke the spell and reveals the location of the Heart, only to garner the attention of unwanted daedra:

Ritemaster Iachesis: "My friends, the Heart of Transparent Law will soon be back in our hands.
Heart, reveal yourself! Gah Noro berrin, vo rah Larow e javeel!"
Valsirenn: "Iachesis—your chest, it's glowing!"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "Of course! I put the Heart inside myself. It was the perfect hiding place!"
Clavicus Vile: "Look, Mephala. The mortal hid the Heart inside his own body. How clever!"
Darien Gautier: "Uh oh. Mephala and Clavicus Vile. This could be bad."
Mephala: "But why did Nocturnal keep this from us? No matter. I'll take the crystal now, Ritemaster."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "My wards … shall … protect me!"

During the defense, the Daedric Princes start playing tug of war with Iachesis:

Clavicus Vile: "Impressive, for a mortal. But the wards won't hold long against our power!"
Mephala: "Stop struggling, mortal. You're only delaying the inevitable."
Valsirenn: "Fight, Iachesis! Just hold on!"
Mephala: "Hold still, mortal, and I'll make this quick."
Ritemaster Iachesis: "Val … promise me … you'll lead them … if …."
Valsirenn: "Don't even say it, Iachesis! Just keep fighting!"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "They're … tearing me … apart …"

After the defense, Nocturnal makes her appearance:

Clavicus Vile: "Mephala, stop that! I've got him! Wait, what's—"
Mephala: "Nocturnal? How dare you interfere!"
Nocturnal: "Get out of my realm, Princes. You are no longer welcome. The Heart belongs to me. We made a deal, didn't we, mortal?"
Valsirenn: "Iachesis?"
Ritemaster Iachesis: "I did what I had to. I hid the Heart, even from you. The only way to retrieve it is to kill me."
Nocturnal: "Very well. I accept those terms."
Valsirenn: "No!"
Darien Gautier: "We need to go. Now."
Valsirenn: "Ritemaster … damn it! Hang on, I'll get us out of here!"

Valsirenn starts to open a portal. While Nocturnal wrenches Dawnbreaker from Darien, the portal will open:

Valsirenn: "Hold on! I'm getting us out of here!"

On the other side, Orianda will greet the now smaller group:

Oriandra: "Valsirenn … where's the Ritemaster?"
Valsirenn: "Nocturnal killed him. We couldn't stop her."
Oriandra: "No … that's not possible."

Speaking to her once back in the Dreaming Cave:

"Why did Nocturnal have to kill Iachesis? Because of some damn crystal? I don't understand any of this.
Please, I need a moment to gather my thoughts."

A Necessary Alliance[edit]

Speaking to her at the start of the quest:

"First my husband betrays us. Then my friend and mentor dies at the hands of a Daedric Prince. This situation gets worse and worse with every passing moment."

When you find Valsirenn in her study, she'll be forcefully interrogating Leythen.

Oriandra: "Valsirenn, stop! You're going to kill him!"
Valsirenn: "Arrgh! Fine! Let our friend finish the interrogation."

Speaking to her after she releases Leythen from her choking spell:

"Oriandra doesn't trust me right now, and I can't blame her.
You interrogate Leythen. Get him to tell you why they killed the Ritemaster. We need answers! Otherwise, I—I'm not sure what we should do."

You can speak with Valsirenn after the interrogation:

"Leythen is a shell of the man I fell in love with. We can't trust anything he says.
No, we have to deal with this ourselves. And the key is reaching the Crystal Tower before Nocturnal can accomplish a similar feat."
Sotha Sil says that Nocturnal stole his secret for using life energy as a source of power.
"Just another horrible bit of news in an otherwise horrible situation."
All the more reason for us to get to the Crystal Tower. Last I heard, the Sapiarchs were attempting to rapidly attune two new tower sentinels. We need to see if they succeeded."
Where are the Sapiarchs attempting the attuning ritual?
"Likely at the Crystal Tower Gatehouse, northeast of Lillandril. The ritual usually requires a full year and a day to complete, but the Sapiarchs reluctantly agreed to try to speed up the process.
We should head out immediately."
I'll meet you at the Crystal Tower Gatehouse.

She'll then turn to Oriandra with instructions:

Valsirenn: "Oriandra, tell Darien to meet us at the Crystal Tower Gatehouse. And keep an eye on Leythen while we're gone."

Speak to her before leaving:

"Meet Darien and me at the Crystal Tower Gatehouse. It lies to the northeast of Lillandril.
I just hope the Sapiarchs have found a way to speed up their ritual. We really need the tower sentinels right now."

At the Crystal Tower gatehouse, Valsirenn is monitoring the new sentinels as they attempt to rapidly attune themselves:

Sapiarch Illmildil: "Don't lose... focus!"
Sapiarch Rundirwe: "The diamond key... it won't meld with me!"
Valsirenn: "Keep trying! We need to open these gates!"

Speaking with her after this exchange:

"Time is running out. The Sapiarchs still haven't completed their ritual, and now Nocturnal has launched an attack against them. I sent Darien and Razum-dar to defend the Sapiarchs, but the Daedra keep on coming!"
What do you need me to do?
"While the Sapiarchs here work to attune themselves to the Resolute Diamonds, other Sapiarchs perform their parts of the ritual at the north and south platforms.
Nocturnal has sent Daedra to disrupt the ritual platforms. You need to stop them."
Tell me more about this ritual.
"While the Sapiarchs here work to attune themselves to the Resolute Diamonds, other Sapiarchs perform their parts of the ritual at the north and south platforms.
Nocturnal has sent Daedra to disrupt the ritual platforms. You need to stop them."

Speaking to her again before leaving to help defend the ritual:

"Help Darien and Raz protect the ritual platforms. I'll do what I can here."

After you've defended the ritual platforms, the ritual at the gate goes awry:

Sapiarch Illmildil: "The energy. Something feels wrong."
Sapiarch Rundirwe: "No. I think it's work- arrgh!"
Valsirenn: "Damn it, no!"

Speaking to Valsirenn after the accident:

"I knew this wasn't going to work. Speeding up the Sapiarch ritual was a long shot, at best.
We should have had the Conclave working on a solution all along. The Psijics could have figured out how to attune the Resolute Diamonds."
Isn't that still an option?
"You're right. Even without the Ritemaster, we can still do this. I can take the Resolute Diamonds and return to Artaeum immediately.
But... but... well, I'm kind of at a loss as to what we should do next."
We could try Leythen's suggestion and seek help from Mephala and Clavicus Vile.
"No, that was a bad idea the first time Leythen suggested it."
"I'll take the diamonds to Artaeum and get the Conclave working on them immediately.
Meanwhile, I need you to go to Alinor and warn the Proxy Queen. She has to make sure Summerset is prepared for the worst- just in case."
I'll go to Alinor and warn the Proxy Queen.
Your idea seems like the best option. Have the Psijics figure our how to use the diamond keys.

After you speak with her about what to do next:

Valsirenn: "Darien, gather the diamond keys. The Psijic Order will do what the Sapiarchs could not."
Darien Gautier: "No. I'm done with the Psijic Order. Too many deaths, not enough action."
Razum-dar: "Raz will meet our friend in Alinor. You two do what you must."

Speak to her before leaving and she'll remark:

"The knight tests my patience, but I'll let his words pass for now.
I promise you, if there's a way to utilize the diamonds to open the Crystal Tower, the Psijic Order will find it."

Once you have made a deal with Clavicus Vile inside The Vaults of Heinarwe, Valsirenn will contact you with some news:

Valsirenn: "Can you hear me? I have troubling news."

Speaking to her projection:

"The Golden Knight has taken matters into his own hands! He set Leythen free and returned with him to Summerset."
Why would Darien set Leythen free and go with him to Summerset?
"Who knows what all that time in Meridia's realm did to Darien's mind? He couldn't have gotten off the island without Leythen's help, and Leythen needed his assistance to circumvent the wards placed upon him. I need you to find out what they're up to."
Where did they go?
"I sense Darien in Summerset's northwest region. But Leythen's magic prevents me from identifying a more precise location.
Please. I need your help. The Resolute Diamonds are proving more difficult to unravel than I imagined and there's no one else."
I'll look for Darien and Leythen in northwestern Summerset.

After this conversation ends:

Valsirenn: "I'll find you as soon as the Resolute Diamonds are ready to use."

Once you have found Darien and Lethyen and learnt of Nocturnal's true plans, you can return to Valsirenn back in Ceporah Tower:

"We've failed. The Conclave, despite its best efforts, wasn't able to attune the Resolute Diamonds. We can't use the diamond keys to enter the Crystal Tower.
But what about you? Were you able to track down Darien and the traitor Leythen?"
I found them. Leythen helped me determine Nocturnal's true plan. She wants to remake reality.
"Using the Crystal Tower and Sotha Sil's technique for utilizing life energy? Then we really are doomed. Without a way into the Crystal Tower, we can't even attempt to challenge Nocturnal, let alone stop her."
Clavicus Vile offered to let us use his realm to reach the Crystal Tower.
"Is that what the Psijic Order is reduced to? Forced to accept help from the same Daedric Princes that got us into this trouble in the first place?
Still, going to the tower won't matter if we can't use the diamond keys to get inside."
Mephala might be able to help us attune the Resolute Diamonds.
"I opposed this line of reasoning when Leythen first suggested it, as bargains with the Princes don't often end well. But what choice do we have?
Still, thanks for finding a way forward. While it's a long shot, at least it represents a chance."

The Crystal Tower[edit]

When you accept the quest from her:

"I'll start making preparations for the Dreaming Cave. In the meantime, Sotha Sil asked me to send you to his study the moment you arrived. I'm not sure what he wants, but you should tell him about your interactions with the betrayed Princes."
Do you know why Sotha Sil wants to see me?
"Something to do with the Crystal Tower, no doubt. Sotha Sil has never been forthcoming, though for some reason it appears he's taken a liking to you.
But tell me, what of Darien and Leythen?"
Darien is on his way back, and he's bringing Leythen with him.
"Both decided to return? I'm surprised. Meridia's knight has a stake in this, but why would Leythen volunteer to return? It makes no sense to me.
Well, go and talk to Sotha Sil. Perhaps he can shed light on what we can expect in the Crystal Tower."
I'll go talk to Sotha Sil.
"Sotha Sil waits for you in his study. Tell him about the alliance with the Daedric Princes and ask him if he knows what we can expect to face inside the Crystal Tower.
I'll wait for Darien and Leythen to return."
If Vile and Mephala open the way, what's our plan for assaulting the Crystal Tower?
"We'll want to send a small force but leave the majority of the Conclave behind in case the efforts in the Crystal Tower fail. Leave the details of that to me.
I'm not sure how we're going to stop Nocturnal, though. Maybe Sotha Sil has some ideas."

When you next see her during this quest, she'll be talking with Leythen.

Valsirenn: "You were a terrific father to our daughter, Leythen. I'll never forget that."
Earl Leythen: "You were always Ealdaawe's hero, Val. I envied the way she looked up to you."
Valsirenn: "I'm sorry, Leythen. I should have been there with you. With her. At the end."
Earl Leythen: "You were trying to save her. I know that. It was just… damn it, we need to win this, Val."

Speaking to her after their conversation:

"Things will never be the same between me and Leythen again, but I think we understand each other a little better now.
Funny how the approaching end of the world has a way of putting everything into perspective."
Are you ready for this?
"I've been a member of the Psijic Order for more years than I can remember, but this is the first time since my daughter's illness that I've been truly frightened of what's to come."
So this is your first time facing the end of the world?
"The world ends all the time. It's just that I'm more accustomed to that being a personal event and not a shared experience. The world ended when the Ritemaster died, for example, but only from his perspective.
If Nocturnal remakes reality…"
Let's go to the Dreaming Cave and make sure that doesn't happen.
"You have a way of instilling confidence, my friend. You're similar to the Ritemaster in that regard. If we can't have him at our side for this, I'm glad to at least have you.
I just hope we can see our way through this. I'll meet you at the cave."'

Speaking to her again:

"Give us another moment, then we'll join you in the Dreaming Cave."

Speaking to her in the Dreaming Cave:

"I wish the Ritemaster were still with us. I'd feel better if he were here to help with this fight."

She calls out to Leythen as he makes his way into the portal, following Sotha Sil's meeting:

Valsirenn: "Leythen, promise me you'll keep them safe!"
Earl Leythen: "I promise Val."

Speak to her before entering the portal:

"Sotha Sil needs Oriandra and me to help him maintain the connection from this end. But Leythen once wore the gray robes of the Psijic Order. He'll help you in there.
Just … just try to bring everyone back after you deal with Nocturnal."

After defeating Nocturnal, she arrives at the top of the Crystal Tower:

Valsirenn: "The Crystal Tower… its defenses no longer keep me out! Are you here, my friend?"
Valsirenn: "You… you did it. I knew it!"

Speaking to Valsirenn at this point:

"Transparent Law, it's whole again! I didn't think that was possible. And you stopped Nocturnal. You're back upon Summerset, my friend. The tower itself— it reformed!
But... where's Darien… and Leythen…?"
Darien sacrificed himself to restore Dawnbreaker so I could repair the tower crystal.
"Of course. When you restored the tower crystal, it most likely expelled Nocturnal back to her own realm. I'm a little concerned that I was able to walk in without a key, but we can figure that out later.
Now tell me what happened to Leythen."
Leythen gave his life so we could reach the top of the tower.
"Leythen… I'll… I'll mourn for Leythen later. I'm just glad he helped you. He would have made our daughter proud.
For now, you have to tell Sotha Sil what happened. Then we can inform Summerset that the island—the world—is safe again."
Let's go.

A New Alliance[edit]

She says upon approaching her or her projection:

Valsirenn: "We still have work to do, my friend."

Speaking to her projection if having left and come back to Artaeum:

"Greetings, my friend. I'm afraid I come with a matter of urgency.
Your presence is needed once more on Artaeum. Hopeffully, this shall be our last ordeal to ensure Summerset's prosperity."
Is something wrong?
"It concerns the Crystal Toweer. I fear that the Sapiarchs can no longer handle the tower's protection alone, given its current state.
But please, return to the Dreaming Cave. We'll discuss the details once you arrive."
I'll come find you in the Dreaming Cave.

Speaking to her in the Dreaming Cave after accepting the quest from her projection:

"Thank you for coming. I've called you here to discuss a matter of grave importance.
The Crystal Tower's defenses have been severely weakened. While it's still protected against Daedric influences, any mer or man can now enter its gates."
How can we help protect the Crystal Tower?
"Protection of the Crystal Tower falls under the jurisdiction of the Sapiarchs. However, I fear their vigilance alone will no longer be enough.
We must convince the Sapiarchs to seek allies. Only then will the tower be safe against future attacks."
How can we get the Sapiarchs to agree to that?
"I plan to call a meeting of Summerset's most influential leaders. Perhaps, with such a force behind us, we can persuade the Sapiarchs to see reason.
I need you there to help plead our case. Will you join us?"
I'll help you convince the Sapiarchs, if I can.

Speaking to her in the Dreaming Cave directly after completing the previous quest:

"I'm afraid we still have work to do. While the Crystal Tower is protected against Daedra, any mortal can now walk right through its gates.
We must convince the Sapiarchs to gather allies in order to defend the Crystal-Like-Law."
How can we convince the Sapiarchs to accept help?
"It will take an influence far stronger than you and I, of that I'm sure.
We'll call a meeting of Summerset's most influential leaders. Perhaps, with such a force behind us, we can persuade the Sapiarchs to see reason."
And if they don't agree?
"We've already seen the devastation that's possible when the tower falls into the wrong hands. And the recent attack by Nocturnal only reinforces the need for greater protection.
I want you there to help plead our case. Will you join us?"
I'll help you convince the Sapiarchs, if I can.

Both dialogue routes then join together at this point:

"Go and tell Oriandra of my plan. She'll know which parties to contact.
I'd also like to ask Sotha Sil to join us. His support would be extremely helpful to our cause."
How are you holding up?
"Honestly, I haven't yet had a moment to process all that happened. There's still so much to be done. And perhaps that's for the best.
The time to grieve can wait. For now, we must ensure the welfare of Summerset."
Valsirenn in the council chamber at Alinor Royal Palace

Later at the Alinor Royal Palace, enter the council chamber and a heated discussion will be taking place:

Sapiarch Larnatille: "You can't make such demands. The Sapiarchs are the keepers of the Crystal Tower!"
Valsirenn: "This is about more than the College of Sapiarchs, Larnatille!"
Razum-dar: "If Raz could intervene? Perhaps we should hear from our newly arrived friend?"
Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "We concur with Razum-dar. Let us hear what the adventurer has to say."

Speak to her:

"I've tried every reasonable argument I could possibly think of, and still Sapiarch Larnatille refuses to budge. Perhaps you can talk some sense into her."

Once you've convinced Larantille, the gathered congregation leaves the room:

Razum-dar: "Raz is sure there are many more details to work out, but for now this one just wants a very strong drink!"
Valsirenn: "If you would wait a moment, my friend. I'd like to talk privately."

Speak to her:

"Thank you for helping me win this last battle. While the Psijic Order will not be among those protecting the Crystal Tower, we will continue to observe from afar.
And now, it's time for us to depart Summerset."
You're leaving? Is that wise?
"We never meant to take such a direct role in events. We're observers. Watchers. We lend a hand, guide fate, but never directly shape it.
Besides, I need to return to Artaeum and take up the mantle of Ritemaster, at least for a little while."
The Conclave made you the Ritemaster?
"On an interim basis, until we get beyond this crisis and can make a decision for the future.
In the meantime, I want to atone for what the Ritemaster and Leythen did. I owe Summerset that much, at least."
So that's it?
"You're attuned to Artaeum and have a connection to the Psijic Order now. The portal will always be open for you. And you'll always be welcome on our hidden island."
Thank you.

If speak to her again, she'll add:

"I believe there's a certain Khajiit who wishes to speak to you. Go on and make sure he hasn't gotten himself into any trouble.
And just know, the Psijic Order will always consider you an ally and friend. As will I."

Once you leave the council chambers, Valsirenn will return to Artaeum.

The Force of Change[edit]

Appears only with The Deadlands
Valsirenn in the Deadlands

North of Zynoahz's Gaol you'll see a ghostly form appear from a portal:

Valsirenn: "Come on! This isn't right!"

If you've met Vasierenn previously, she'll recognize you:

"Gods, it's good to see a fellow Psijic! You can see me, right? What about hear me?"

Otherwise, she'll say:

"Hmm? Oh! You can see me! That's a relief. Can you hear me, too?"
I hear you.
"Another improvement! I've been trapped in this synchroseisiac state for I don't know how long. My senses, my self—scattered far and wide. I'm barely aligned enough to communicate. I need an intervention to pull me free.
Would you help me?"
Synchroseisiac state?
"Out of sync with reality. I need to find a Daedra sage named Rrvenk, a master of the Eleventh Force: Change. He may be my best hope of escaping this synchroseisia. Maybe my only hope.
Will you help me find Rrvenk? I'll compensate you once I'm whole."
I'll help you find Rrvenk.
"The only lead I have is one of Rrvenk's disciples, Morah, in Windswept Crag. I've been trying to communicate with her for hours, but I get no response. If you speak on my behalf we may finally get somewhere."
How did you wind up like this?
"I wanted to study the Eleventh Force, Change, within this realm of Oblivion. You see, Mehrunes Dagon is best known for his power of destruction, but that is merely a portion of his sphere of influence. All of his aspects are rooted in Change."
The Eleventh Force?
"Really? The Eleven Forces are only the basis for your entire studies as a Psijic. You should take some time from your practical studies to brush up on your theory.
The Eleventh, most sacred force is Change."
What does that have to do with your synchroseisia?
"Everything, really. I underestimated Change's currents here in the Deadlands. When I reached out to dip my toes in, I got swept away. Parts of me, anyway."
Is that why your body is gone?
"Among other things. I'm out of sync with this realm, with myself. It seems that I've regained enough alignment to interact with you, but there's no telling how long I'll remain like this and I'd rather not become dispersed across time and space."
What can you tell me about Rrvenk?
"He is a well-known sage, though few besides his disciples have ever seen him. Rumors claim he's always in motion, which is fitting, but also makes tracking him down very difficult.
Morah may be able to guide us to him though."

If you've had previous interactions with the Psijic Order, you may get the following dialogue options. (Otherwise, you'll get "Who are you?" options.)

Did you venture out from Artaeum by yourself?
"Are you suggesting I should have dragged half the order along on this expedition? Maybe held a symposium? I prefer to conduct my studies at my own pace, thank you.
Though I did appear to underestimate how strong the Eleventh Force would be here."
You're the Ritemaster now, you need to be more careful. (appears only if A New Alliance is completed)
"Being Ritemaster is half the reason why I'm here! I hardly have a moment to myself anymore. My study of the Old Ways has fallen to the wayside because of my usual duties.
Your concerns are valid, of course. And noted."
Traveling to Oblivion alone is always risky.
"Well, you're one to talk, aren't you? We're together now, so that's one problem solved already. Between the two of us we should have my synchroseisia resolved in no time."

Morah[edit]

You'll find Morah southeast of Wounded Crossing Wayshrine just as Valsirenn arrives:

Morah: "Ugh, so the ghost returns."
Valsirenn: "Wait. You can see me?"
Morah: "And hear you, unfortunately. I see you brought someone to help offend my other senses too."

Speaking to her to hear her annoyance:

"Unbelievable. I spent hours trying to get her attention, trying to figure out how to communicate with her, and she was ignoring me. The nerve!"

After speaking to Morah, Valsirenn will be encouraged:

"I'm sorry you had to endure that, but considering most Daedra's temperaments, Morah's caustic personality isn't so bad.
I think we might be able to make some headway with her."
How so?
"I've observed her for some time now while trying to make contact. I think she's dissatisfied by more than just our presence. There's something more to this apocalypse seed business than she's willing to admit. It might help persuade her."
Where can we get one?
"Morah mentioned End Times ash trees. I vaguely recall some trivial details from my travel preparations. I think I can identify one of those trees when I see it.
My present condition should actually make the search easier. I'll scout ahead."
I'll meet you out there.

Near The Razorworks, Valsirenn will teleport in:

Valsirenn: "Here! This is the specimen we're looking for. Well, in a manner of speaking."

Speaking to her:

"This is an End Times ash tree, but it appears to be like most things in the Deadlands—dead.
All is not lost, though! I remember that these trees have a particularly volatile life cycle. Growth, destruction, regrowth. It just needs a nudge."
What do I need to do?
"If we want a seed, we need it to sprout. That's impossible while it's dead, but I think we can encourage it to change if we provide it with the right catalysts.
I'll try conjuring some elements. If I can manage that, you can apply them to the tree."
You can't do it yourself?
"I am still tenuously connected to this realm. I'm not even sure I'll be able to muster simple conjurations, but you and I are still relatively in phase. If all goes well, you can act as an intermediary and effect change on my behalf."
All right, let's give it a try.

Valsirenn will cast a spell summoning three elements:

Valsirenn: "Whew, that was more difficult than it should have been. Try using those on the tree."

Speaking to her about what to do:

"I've managed to conjure some elements for you to use on the End Times ash tree.
Now you just need it to sprout new seeds."
Any idea how I might accomplish that?
"I'm afraid I don't remember much else from skimming through my guide to this realm. Not that it'd do me much good when my fingers would pass right through it.
This is a plane of natural disaster, but it may imitate life as we know it."
Meaning what exactly?
"Meaning that the land is usually ripest for new growth in the wake of destruction. That might well hold true even here."

As you continue to pick the incorrect sequence of elements, Valsirenn will be displaced and reappear, telling you to try again:

  • Valsirenn: "The synchroseisia, it's—"
<Valsirenn vanishes and reappears>
Valsirenn: "We've looped back upon ourselves. You'll need to try something else."
  • Valsirenn: "Something's changing!"
<Valsirenn vanishes and reappears>
Valsirenn: "That is deeply unpleasant, but at least we're returning to a stable current."
  • Valsirenn: "Oh, I feel out of—"
<Valsirenn vanishes and reappears>
Valsirenn: "I appreciate trial and error methodologies, but I'd really rather not test our luck with the Eleventh Force. Proceed carefully, please."
  • Valsirenn: "Not again …."
<Valsirenn vanishes and reappears>
Valsirenn: "I've heard of these kind of phenomena before. They're worse than I imagined."

When using the conjured fire first:

Valsirenn: "Cleansing fire, that is a good start."

When using the conjured water next:

Valsirenn: "New life breaking through the quenched flames."

Before you pic up the seed:

"See that mound of ash? I think the apocalypse seed is just under the surface. Try digging it up."

Take the seed and Valsirenn will briefly become corporeal... before becoming ethereal again:

Valsirenn: "My body! It's—gone. Again."

Speaking to her:

"Somehow our meddling with the End Times ash affected my asynchronous state. I was fully aligned with myself again, if only for a brief moment. Puzzling.
I'm afraid I don't understand the implications, but Rrvenk might. We should return to Morah."
We could try another tree.
"We could, but I'm not quite to the point of risking my entire existence on blind experimentation. I believe Rrvenk is still my best hope of returning to a stable state. Provided we can convince Morah to help us find him."

Return to Morah and Valsirenn will appear:

Valsirenn: "Morah, we have something for you."
Morah: "Oh, a new smell. How inventive."

Speaking to her before Morah:

"I think we piqued Morah's interest, despite her attitude. See if you can convince her to tell us where to find Master Rrvenk."

Speak to Morah and she'll send you to a Shiro-dar in Wretched Spire:

Valsirenn: "Wretched Spire? I'll meet you there."

Speaking to her before heading to Wretched Spire:

"I'll go on ahead to Wretched Spire and attempt to locate Shiro-dar. Hopefully, he's more cooperative than Morah."

Shiro-dar[edit]

As you enter the Fleapits, you'll hear Valsirenn try to reason with an anxious Khajiit:

Valsirenn: "Wait, please, just listen!"
Shiro-dar: "Gilfrex sent you to haunt me, didn't he? Dubious hench-ghost! This one is not fooled!"
Shiro-dar: "Ah! Mercy! This one does not wish to become Gilfrex's ghost-slave as well!"
Valsirenn: "Just stop for one moment and let me explain!"

Speaking to her before you calm down Shiro-dar:

"He saw me and panicked. He keeps going on about Gilfrex, but I don't know who that is. Perhaps he'll be more cooperative for someone less…transparent.
On the bright side, I seem to be more substantial than we initially thought."

Speak to Shiro-dar and he'll explain that if you were to relieve him of his debt to one Gilfrex, he'd be willing to help you and the Psijic:

Valsirenn: "Let's find this Gilfrex and be done with it."

Speaking to her before you deal with Gilfrex:

"You'll have to handle Gilfrex yourself, I'm afraid. They don't seem to be aware of me. Can't say I mind being beyond the notice of such low-life scum."

Speak to Gilfrex and either persuade him to relieve Shiro-dar or offer to do a favor.

Slave Choker[edit]

If you agreed to fetch the Slave Choker:

"I heard what Gilfrex said. It's off to the False Martyrs' Folly for this Slave Choker, I suppose. Lovely."
Anything you can do to help?
"This collar sounds like some sort of Daedric relic with magical properties. I might be able narrow down its location. If I notice anything, I'll be sure to inform you."
All right, let's go.

Arrive at False Martyrs' Folly:

Valsirenn: "I sense a malevolent power near here. The choker must be close."
"This entire area is teeming with unwholesome energies, but there's something here that feels out of place with the rest. That must be what we're looking for."
Anything you can do to help?
"This collar sounds like some sort of Daedric relic with magical properties. I might be able narrow down its location. If I notice anything, I'll be sure to inform you."
All right, let's go.

Find the location of the choker (atop the overlook south of Kurkron the Mangler) and Valsirenn will be ahead of you again:

Valsirenn: "Over here! This statue has something around its neck."
"There, see if you can remove the collar from that poor soul. You should be fine so long as you don't try it on."

Take the choker:

Valsirenn: "That seems to be what Gilfrex was interested in. I don't envy whoever that Dremora decides to try it out on."

Wretched Spire[edit]

Convince Gilfrex to forgive Shiro-dar's debt one way or another and leave the Fleapits. You'll find Valsirenn trying to retain the cat:

Valsirenn: "Just stay put! My friend is never going to catch up if you keep running off."
Shiro-dar: "But that is how Gilfrex catches up to this one too!"
Valsirenn: "I told you. They've already paid off your debt!"

Speaking to her before Shiro-dar:

"Would you please talk some sense into him? Shiro-dar's coming apart faster than I am! Or that's what he'd like me to believe."

After speaking to Shiro-dar, Valsirenn will fade out and in again:

Valsirenn: "My synchroseisia is shifting again!"

Speaking to her again:

"That is so disorienting! This alignment is still unstable. I can already feel it slipping out of ph-phase.
Please, let's find Hyxo before my condition w—worsens."
What's causing your condition to change?
"I—I think I'm responding to the changes you're creating here. It's a miracle we've maintained a c—connection this long. I take it as—as a good sign that my synchroseisia is coming closer to alignment, even if it—it's unstable."

Hyxo[edit]

Valsirenn and Hyxo

East of Ravaged Crossing, you'll find Valsirenn with the towering Havocrel, Hyxo:

Valsirenn: "Hyxo, was it? No need for any hostility …."
Valsirenn: "Well, that makes the risk of bodily harm moot."

Speaking to her before Hyxo:

"Hyxo does not seem the talkative type. Careful. If you anger him there's not much I can do to help you like this."

Speak to Hyxo and the giant will ask you to solve a riddle of sorts that Rrvenk told him:

"I'm sure Master Rrvenk was speaking of volcanic rocks with this analogy. There must be geological activity nearby that would prove his point. See if you can gather stones that are as Hyxo described."

Collect some rock samples and Valsirenn will find you again:

Valsirenn: "Over here! Did you find the stones?"
Valsirenn: "Hyxo should be along, it'd be hard to miss hi—"
<Hyxo pulls himself out of the ground>
"oh! Well … he's arrived."

Speaking to her:

"I think Hyxo's very annoyed that he can't hurt me right now. Don't keep him waiting, or he might turn that frustration toward you."

After speaking to Hyxo, Valsirenn will briefly become corporeal again:

Valsirenn: "I'm really glad your mood improved before this happened."

Speaking to her again:

"What's the saying? One step forward, two steps back? I feel like I'm on the end of a pendulum … and it's getting ready to swing back. Hard.
Let's hurry to Master Rrvenk."

Master Rrvenk[edit]

Not far from Zynoahz's Gaol where you first encountered Val, you'll see her and... a banekin:

Valsirenn: "Hello? Who's speaking? Wait—Master Rrvenk? Is that you?"
Master Rrvenk: "<Gibbering, hooting noises.>"

Speaking to her:

"Not what I expected, but then nothing about this journey has been thus far. The Banekin's—er, Master Rrvenk's—voice comes through clearly, but I don't understand. He's telling me he can't correct my alignment with this realm!"
So what will you do?
"I—I don't know. I'm stretched so thin. Just holding onto some semblance of reality all this time has been exhausting. I don't think I can go on fighting like this much longer."
So you're just going to give up?
"If a master of the Eleventh Force can't fix this, what hope do I have? I can barely think straight anymore! If you have any brilliant ideas, I'm open to suggestions."
Stop looking for someone to fix your problem and get a hold of yourself.
"Yes. You're right. I'm a Psijic. I know myself better than anyone. If anyone is going to pull myself together, it should be me."
Aren't your Old Ways all about mastering the Eleven Forces? You just need to keep trying.
"You're right. I'm letting fear and frustration get the better of me. This is no different than any of my other studies. I just need to focus my efforts and learn for myself."
If struggling against your condition is tearing you apart, maybe you should stop.
"Just give in? That's insane. My entire being would be scattered across infinite time and space! But ... I suppose there was a positive reaction when others near us stopped resisting change.
I ... I'll have to trust in the Eleventh Force."

If you convinced her to not give up she will turn into a cat:

Valsirenn: "I am the master of myself."
<Valsirenn turns into a cat>
Valsirenn: "Mrow? Mrow! Mrow!"
Valsirenn: "Ugh, it's too much. I can't keep fighting it. I have to let go …."
<Valsirenn becomes corporeal>
Valsirenn: "I feel it … pulling. Pushing. But I can flow with it! I can align with it."

If you decided to convince her to keep trying she will turn into a sea giant:

Valsirenn: "I am a master of the Old Ways and the Eleven Forces are mine to command."
<Valsirenn turns into a Sea Giant>
Valsirenn: "Bend Force! Change! Grrah!"
<Valsirenn becomes incorporeal>
Valsirenn: "Ugh, it's too much. I can't keep fighting it. I have to let go …."
<Valsirenn becomes corporeal>
Valsirenn: "I feel it … pulling. Pushing. But I can flow with it! I can align with it."

If you decided to convince her to stop she will:

Valsirenn: "Here goes nothing, which is what I'll be if this doesn't work .... Relax. Let go."
<Valsirenn becomes corporeal>
Valsirenn: "I feel it … pulling. Pushing. But I can flow with it! I can align with it."

Speaking to her about her experiences:

"Ah, at last. I'm whole again! I can't begin to describe how unpleasant it is to be strewn across the cosmos.
I think my sense of touch was underwater half the time. And my teeth feel like I've been sleeping with my mouth open."
Will you stay whole this time?
"Yes. I understand how to keep this realm's chaos from pulling me apart now. I'll be fine, thanks to your efforts as my proxy. If I had to be out of phase with reality, I'm glad you were there to help me!
Please accept this with all my gratitude."

After the quest: Valsirenn and Master Rrvenk begin "speaking":

Master Rrvenk: "<Babbling.>"
Valsirenn: "Well, of course, it's not so easy to let go of control when your entire existence is in jeopardy."
Master Rrvenk: "<Chuffing, flapping lips.>"
Valsirenn: "Then I think you have a great deal to learn about the mortal condition. I can share the finer details later."

Speak to her again:

"This was quite the learning experience. Not what I had in mind when I embarked on this journey, but informative none the less. I do look forward to some less hands-on exploration of the Eleventh Force for now."
What will you do now?
"I'd like to travel with Master Rrvenk for a bit, if he'll allow it. Despite appearances, I think he'll make an enlightening guide on this journey of mine."
There's still more for you to learn?
"There's always something more to learn. Unless you're a fool.
Today I merely learned how to keep my head above water. Tomorrow, I practice swimming."
What do you make of Master Rrvenk being a Banekin?
"Banekin are not thoughtful by nature. Nor do Daedra change easily, even in a realm as turbulent as this one. To be so different from others of his kind? It proves just how far he's come on his own journey.
He's earned the title of master."

Against All Hope[edit]

If you helped Valsirenn in The Force of Change, return to Fargrave after defeating Nokvroz and seemingly all of Fargrave has turned out to celebrate your victory:

"I can't state firmly enough how bad it would have been if Valkynaz Nokvroz and his Incarnates gained control of Fargrave.
Your victory was pivotal to countless futures."
Countless futures? / You mentioned countless futures before. What did you mean?
"Broadly speaking, the innumerable lives within the reach of that unusual place would have been turned for the worse.
Speaking as a Psijic, the scale and scope of the forces at work were capable of drifting beyond our shared temporal experience."
You're suggesting Nokvroz could have altered time itself?
"I doubt Nokvroz had the imagination to use Fargrave's unique properties in such a way, but the potential for unintentional disruptions was within the realm of possibility.
Regardless, you've changed things for the better. We all owe you our thanks."
Has your condition remained stable since we parted?
"There's no more cause for concern. Once I was able to wrap my head around the concept, navigating the ever-shifting nature of this realm has become almost second nature.
Though I must appear a flailing novice compared to Master Rrvenk."
How was your time with Master Rrvenk?
"I wandered alongside him for a time, observing. Master Rrvenk's a remarkable being. He seems to read the flow of the Eleventh Force so clearly he's practically precognitive, though he never once attempted to alter its course."
Is that strange?
"Only puzzling. I don't know whether Rrvenk can't affect the force of change or simply chooses not to. In our travels, he simply drifted along its currents like a cork in a river, pushed harmlessly aside by the ripples and rapids of turbulent events."

Hope Springs Eternal[edit]

Appears only with Blackwood
Valsirenn in Leyawiin Castle

Join the celebration at Leyawiin Castle:

"You have come a long way from leading this poor lost soul to enlightenment. I've witnessed a great many phenomena as a Psijic, but never a mortal contend with a Daedra Prince as you have."

After speaking to the Anchorite and before speaking to Eveli, you can ask questions:

I just seem to get swept up in those sort of events.
"That would be true of most, but not for you. Your relationship with the Eleventh Force is more like the moons and tides. Change doesn't pull you along its currents like the rest of us. It follows in your wake."
Did Master Rrvenk tell you that?
"No, but he taught me to be more aware of the Eleventh Force. Feel its flow When I sense its motions surrounding you, it doesn't so much push or pull as crash against you like an ocean crag.
I'm obligated to study why. Hope you don't mind."

After Eveli gives her speech:

"Once again the machinations of the Daedric Princes have been thwarted by you. We might have to start calling you the Twelfth Force."

Dialogue[edit]

After the Summerset main quest, Ritemaster Valsirenn can be found at a small shrine just west of Artaeum Craftworks.

"You came to visit, just as I hoped. It's good to see you again, my friend.
It's been quiet here on Artaeum. I've actually had time to breathe, for once. And of course, time to mourn."
How are you doing?
"To be honest? I've been a little overwhelmed with my new responsibilities. I don't know how Iachesis did it. He truly was a marvelous man.
Luckily, I'm only the interim Ritemaster until the Conclave can agree on a more suitable candidate."
How do you feel about Leythen's death?
"Sad, of course. I think I understand him better now. I plan to remember what he sacrificed in the end. What he did to help us.
Leythen and my daughter, they'll always be here, in my heart. Always."
Of course.
"I'm sorry, but this is still so hard to talk about. Finding Leythen after all these years, only to lose him again…. It was incredibly difficult.
Perhaps you'd like to discuss another topic?"
What's [sic] does the Psijic Order plan to do next? / Of course. What's the Psijic Order's plans now?
"We observe.
There are always dangers. Determining what events require our attention is the hard part. The largest and loudest menaces are often the least threatening. It's the ripples you can barely see. That's where danger often lies."
So no end of the world threat looming over us?
"Not yet, in any case. Though I suspect you may hear about such a threat before we do.
For now, I'll do my best to be a competent Ritemaster. That alone is a tremendous task. One that I do not plan to take lightly."

Notes[edit]

  • While Valrisrenn is your follower during quests, she uses a Psijic ability where she envelops an enemy in a magical field, rendering them immobile for a duration.
Valsirenn's health value varies throughout the game. It's 39,959 in the Undercroft Great Hall and Labyrinth, at the Coral Forest, in Rellenthil and its sinkhole, at the College of Sapiarchs, within the Spiral Skein, at the end of A Necessary Alliance and The Crystal Tower, and after the main Summerset questline. In the College of Sapiarchs and at Nocturnal's shrine in Evergloam, Valsirenn's health is 57,500.
