Lucan's Gift[edit]

So I retrieved the golden claw AND married his sister. When I returned, he told me he wanted to give me something, but claimed it didn't mean we were engaged: Fine Clothing. Anyone know why? I was wearing the Amulet of Mara but already married. It seems strange. — Unsigned comment by 108.49.43.88 (talk) at 06:27 on 11 January 2012

Both he and his sister, as well as a few other NPCs you complete quests for, will occasionally give gifts to the player as a sign of gratitude. In fact, I think his sister's lines are identical to what he says. Voraxith 06:36, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

The Golden Claw[edit]

So did anyone else notice how his sister says he won't say were he got the claw when she leads you to the edge of town? Could it imply he was once an adventurer? Kremlin16 20:07, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Lucan Valerius' 10k gold...[edit]

I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning, but investing 500 gold in his shop doesn't immediately "unlock" the 10k gold; it adds 500 to his current amount. I had to quit and restart (PC) for the 10k to become available. — Unsigned comment by 97.103.34.187 (talk) at 21:35 on 30 August 2012

You're right in that he only has the gold the next time his inventory resets. SilencerSpeak 21:44, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Apparently this "bug" has been fixed; he now (as of version 1.9.38.04) only has 2250 gold. — Unsigned comment by 142.196.213.173 (talk) at 16:30 on 4 April 2013‎
Confirmed bug fix - playing on Xbox, just got the 1.9 patch, he now has 1250 gold (without the +1000 Master Trader perk). Lame. Username12345 (talk) 19:14, 8 April 2013 (GMT)

Can't talk to Lucan Valerius anymore[edit]

Maybe it's a bug, maybe because I am ignoring his request to retrieve the golden claw for him so far, but Lucan won't talk to me anymore. Therefor I can't buy from or sell to him. Anyone else encountered this with him? — Unsigned comment by 77.162.14.246 (talk) at 21:18 on 17 January 2013‎

I had the same problem with him even after completing the quest. He and his sister were both standing in front of the Riverwood trader and could not talk to them. I fixed it by attacking them with unrelenting force and then surrendering to the guards that attacked. After that they went inside and I was able to buy and sell with him again. — Unsigned comment by ‎70.196.35.241 (talk) at 06:39 on 5 February 2013

Get Riverwood's Lucan Trader More Gold After Unofficial Skyrim Patch[edit]

I am not completely sure about how this will effect the console, but I know that if you open the console command window and type 'help perk', scroll up and you will see a bunch of vendor lines which seems to let you adjust the Investor status of a variety of vendor's throughout Skyrim. For Lucan in Riverwood, you want to type 'set perkinvestorriverwoodgeneral to 100', press enter, then engage Lucan in dialogue. The Investor option will be there again (note: if you haven't invested in him yet, probably better to do that first. You might still need to have the Investor perk to do this) Invest in him, then retype the code in the console command. I did this about 3000 short of 20,000 because I heard of a bug that glitches the vendors if their gold gets over 20,000. Hope this helps...— Unsigned comment by 173.52.220.11 (talk) at 12:01 on 12 April 2013

Roderic Valerius?[edit]

So after stealing from the Riverwood Trader, I got hit with hired thugs. Except the contract they were carrying was from a Roderic Valerius? Is this an unused relative, or a changed name of Lucan's? — Unsigned comment by ‎72.91.241.98 (talk) at 03:45 on 29 October 2013

Taking Golden Claw[edit]

The information in the notes section about being able to take the claw after marrying Lucan's sister is wrong. Martingolding96 (talk) 13:15, 12 December 2013 (GMT)

We need more information to be able to determine whether it is true or not. What platform do you play on? Do you have any mods? --AN|L (talk) 14:30, 12 December 2013 (GMT)
I have the Xbox 360 version so I don't have access to any mods also i have the latest patch installed. Martingolding96 (talk) 18:03, 30 December 2013 (GMT)

Moved from article[edit]

  • If you steal the golden claw from the counter of his store he continues to remark of it being back in its proper place.
  • If you marry his sister, you will be allowed to take the golden claw.

I have concerns about whether either of these are noteworthy. The second one sounds like ordinary NPC behavior: When you befriend an NPC, you can take certain items from that NPC's home, and if you move in with them after marrying them, the same should apply. Another discussion on this page also seems to dispute this note.

The first one is just about the dialogue that appears after meeting certain conditions; once you complete the quest, Lucan says the line. Sure, it's possible to contradict what he's saying by taking the claw again, but is it really worth noting? When guards ask you to "conjure them up a warm bed" because your conjuration skill is a certain level, we don't mention that there's no spell in the game that allows players to conjure beds.

What does everyone think? ThuumofReason (talk) 15:54, 12 December 2013 (GMT)

Hm, agreed to remove. -- SarthesArai Talk 19:59, 12 December 2013 (GMT)
Same here. There are a lot of instances where NPC dialogue doesn't match in-game conditions. We don't have to document every single one of these. Also, I think I was able to take the golden claw even though I hadn't married his sister. It's been over a year, though, so I can't be sure. It's probably just dependent on his disposition as you said. --Xyzzy Talk 05:46, 13 December 2013 (GMT)

Lucan's sense of direction[edit]

I guess this isn't really noteworthy, but I find it odd that Lucan can't tell where Bleak Falls Barrow is, since it is visible from his house, he states it is 'north east of town' obviously it was a mixup in production, maybe the barrow was going to be in another location originally, but for such an early piece of game dialogue to be wrong seems strange as you would think it would be one of the first things play testers or whatever came across94.6.235.172 20:00, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Lucan might have absent-minded tendencies... DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 21:03, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Better before?[edit]

SarthesArai, how was that note better before? My version of the note talks more about Lucan himself, as opposed to the barrow. The current version suggests the page is about the barrow. Even the way the sentence is worded suggests it too. WDYT? DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 19:09, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Your version suggests/infers that Lucan has difficulty navigating--something that is completely baseless. There is nothing wrong with the current version and does not suggest that the page is about the barrow, only that his dialogue is incorrect. •WoahBro►talk 19:16, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
How is it 'completely baseless'? The reason I worded it that way is because the barrow is visible from the entrance to the Riverwood Trader. By the way, I'm not asserting in bad faith that Lucan has difficulty navigating. DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 19:30, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
We have equal reason to assume the developers just messed up directions and ordered incorrect voice over. Your wording implies that it was done on purpose, while the old one just states the mistake without judgement. -- SarthesArai Talk 19:38, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
Lucan's statement is not in accordance with the location of the barrow. More to the point, his statement also suggests he's under some delusion that the location of the barrow, as wrongly indicated in the statement, is where he, in the statement, says it is. I have reason to believe he thinks the statement is completely true, as he doesn't correct himself at any point after this. DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 19:45, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't "suggest he's under some delusion", it's one of dozens of similar dialogue errors that Bethesda routinely make. Your addition was speculation. —Legoless (talk) 20:38, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
