Larnatille of Lillandril was an Altmeri sage who held the position of Sapiarch of Arcanology and served as the head Sapiarch, the leader of the College of Sapiarchs as of 2E 582.[1][2] She was a scholar and author,[3] widely recognized as a remarkable authority in the realm of arcane knowledge.[4][5][6]
History[edit]
Little is known about Larnatille's past, but it is known that she originated from Lillandril. Over time, she joined the Sapiarchs, progressed through the ranks, and eventually assumed the role of Sapiarch of Arcanology. By the year 2E 582, she had ascended to become the leader of the entire College.[4][5][6]
During her tenure as the head of the college in 2E 582, the College of Sapiarchs faced an attack by the Court of Bedlam. The isle suffered from a Daedric incursion led by Mephala cultist Earl Leythen, who sought access to the Crystal Tower and needed the Resolute Diamonds for that purpose. The cultist demanded that Larnatille hand over the diamond keys to the Crystal-Like-Law. However, she refused to part with the diamonds,[1][7] resulting in deaths among the faculty of the College, including Sapiarch Grenedel, who sacrificed herself to save the head of the college.[8][9] She ended up trapped within the compound with the Daedra and cultists,[2] but the threat was averted.[10]
Simultaneously, Proxy Queen Alwinarwe heeded the Vestige's warning about the looming Daedric threat over the College of Sapiarchs. In response, she issued a document authorizing them to investigate and intervene, ultimately leading to the prevention of the Daedric assault.[11] Although it had initially resulted in significant casualties, the intervention of the Vestige and Psijic Order member Valsirenn successfully averted the crisis, securing the safety of Larnatille and the entire college.[10]
Following the invasion, she instructed the Vestige to warn the Tower sentinels, Hannayel and Imedril, as access to the tower required the Resolute Diamonds, which were guarded by them. They were considered the next targets and were supposed to remain at the Illumination Academy. Accompanied by Razum-dar, the Eye of the Queen, who received information from Psijic Order member Oriandra, the Vestige set out to warn them of the situation.[12] Hannayel was warned in time,[13] but Imedril chose to visit King's Haven Pass, leading to his kidnapping into Mephala's realm, the Spiral Skein, and his subsequent demise.[10][14]
Ultimately, peace was restored, and the threat to the Summerset Isle was averted. However, the Sapiarchs still had to install new defenses. Although initially hesitant to accept assistance in setting up additional defenses for the Crystal Tower, she assured that they would collaborate with the Proxy Queen to ensure the tower's safety. Preparations were commenced promptly, and both the Divine Prosecution and the Mages Guild were promised to be involved in these efforts. However, she declined assistance from the Psijic Order, attributing the threat to the failures and shortcomings of the Psijics in the first place.[1][15][16]
She authored The Crystal of the Tower, a scholarly text dedicated to the Heart of Transparent Law and the Crystal Tower. In this text, she articulated her belief that the Heart of Transparent Law absorbed the Altmer's pursuit of perfection, reflecting it back to dispel imperfections that could weaken or endanger the Summerset Isle. While not everyone agreed, she observed a correlation between the Altmeri people's pride in the Crystal Tower and the security it projected across the land. She considered it a symbiotic relationship, though she also acknowledged that it could all be attributed to ancient Aldmer magic instead.[3]
Larnatille assigned the task of breeding an appropriate mount for Sapiarch sages in the field to Corderil of Sunhold, the Sub-Sapiarch of Domestic Livestock. The Senche-Serval breed, crafted by the sage, was deemed both loyal and majestic.[17][18]
